Hi ,

Senate bill 2195 passed the Senate late last night (Wednesday, October 6, 2004)! This bill reclassifies Prohormones (PH) and Prosteroids (PS) as anabolic steroids and makes them controlled substances.

The bill is currently being held at the desk in the House. Given the House has previously passed nearly identical Legislation, it is our expectation that House members plan to vote and unanimously pass the bill on Friday.

Once done, the bill will be on the presidents desk within 2 weeks to be signed and the ban would become effective 90 days thereafter. Though unlikely, the possibility of an emergency enactment exists (i.e. all PH and PS become illegal upon signature of the President).

ALRI wants to make you aware of this issue and let you know that after 90 days you will no longer have legal access to any prohormone or prosteroid products. The only legal option for hormonal support will be prescription testosterone.

This will be interesting. My guess is that hte ban on pro-steroids aand prohormones will drive many more people towards genuine steroids. Wonder if anyone in our rather brain dead government thought of this.

So my question is, why not ban phytoestrogens? After all - they mimic or precurse a hormone such as estrogen. No, rather quite the opposite, they are working to make estrogen available OTC -- even though it IS the hormone linked to cancer and heart disease.

The answer is that the government is only banning substances proven to, or that can possibly, build muscle. Makes one wonder about the kind of "men" in congress. We live in a society where testosterone and muscles are simply not politically correct.

I got the same email. I was wondering if anyone had done the research to see if it was true or just a sales tactic by this company? It would not be the first time I have seen this type of "pitch", in-fact my local supplement store uses this daily, according to them everything will be illegal "in the next few weeks".

US House Votes to Restrict Steroid Precursors

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Legislation to ban over-the-counter sales of steroid precursors won approval in the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday as lawmakers moved to crack down on performance-enhancing drugs in sports.

On a vote of 408-to-3, the House sent the measure to the Senate for concurrence. The bill would require a doctor's prescription to use precursors, which act like steroids in the body.

Anabolic steroids are testosterone-like drugs that bulk up muscles and give an energy boost. They are different from medical corticosteroids used to treat a range of conditions from asthma to skin disorders.

When used long-term they can cause heart attacks, strokes, high blood pressure and extreme mood swings.

Many precursor steroids are as dangerous as steroids but are not yet illegal, leaving the erroneous impression they are a safe way to enhance athletic performance, backers of the House-passed bill said.

The legislation would add these drugs to the federal controlled substance list, making it more difficult to obtain them.

"The goal of this legislation is clear: we do not want these harmful substances around our gyms, baseball stadiums, football fields or our running tracks," said House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner, a Wisconsin Republican and chief sponsor of the bipartisan measure.

"We do not want our athletes to risk their health to win. We want the way American athletes treat their bodies to be a source of pride for our country, not a source of shame," Sensenbrenner said. "We want our children to be able to look up to these athletes for their accomplishments."

Use of steroids among children has risen in the past decade with evidence suggesting it has even reached some middle schools. Young users are at risk of premature skeletal maturation and accelerated puberty changes that could lead to stunted growth.

USFA Update: October 5, 2004
The legislation (S.2195) is expected to go to the floor for a vote tonight. If approved by unanimous consent, the bill would be sent to the House for their approval. The effective date would begin to run from the date the President signs the bill into law. For those of you who are especially interested in an exact date, the best I can give is an estimate. If there is no objection to the legislation by Thursday, and the bill makes it to the President's desk, it would be reasonable to say that the bill could be expected to take effect on or around January 10th - 15th. We should know by tonight whether the bill will receive unanimous consent on the floor of the Senate. I will continue to keep you up to date. Thanks.

Too bad we dont have drugs pretty much OTC like Mexaco because the fact is its cheaper to have government subsidized rehabs than natonalized helthcare, and that would only cost a very small fraction of what they have been spending on the sick joke called "war on drugs"

Congress approves ban on steroid precursors

Washington, DC, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- The U.S. Congress has approved legislation to block the sale of steroid precursors and increase penalties for anabolic steroid abuse Congress approves ban on steroid precursors

Washington, DC, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- The U.S. Congress has approved legislation to block the sale of steroid precursors and increase penalties for anabolic steroid abuse.

The House approved the bill Friday following Senate approval earlier this week, readying it for President Bush's signature.

The move follows increased interest in steroid use among professional athletes in the wake of a federal indictment of four men on charges of illegally distributing steroids, including the personal trainer of San Francisco Giant heavy hitter Barry Bonds.

Bonds, for his part, has denied the use of such substances.

Sponsored by Sen. Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., the measure would add 18 substances to the list of banned anabolic steroids, including androstenedione and tetrahydrogestrinone.

In addition, it would provide $15 million for educational programs for children about the dangers of steroid use. The legislation also directs the U.S. Sentencing Commission to consider revising federal guidelines to increase penalties for the use and distribution of such substances.
