bad form during deadlifts.

i just returned from the gym, and it is my powerlifting day (clean &jerk &deads) usually when i do dead lifts my form is fine, but today for some reason nomatter what i told my body to do, i locked out too early and lifted with my back, and now i am paying for it. so i lowered the amount of weight and tried again but still, bad form. it has me perplexed. can anyone help me fix this problem? powerlifting day is my favorite day of the week, but not if i am going to kill my back.

did you stretch? What did you work the day before? If upper body maybe you were still sore from the day before

were you using straps and/or a belt? i find this helps me stay uniform in each rep.

Deadlifts

Yeah dead lifts are great but if bad form or slipup you can suffer big time.... I always keep a belt on during my deadlifts and squats and that keeps my back in place but if form is wrong you can screw up the back, hips etc...Just work on form so when you go heavy you will breeze through it with out a prob... Deadlift is all about form if it isnt right your body wont be feeling right. Start off slow with less weight and who cares how much weight you are useing because I see most guys let there ego go out and want to push heacvy weight instead of working on form and lift very sloppy and not even grow and just waste time and get hurt.... just use 2 plates max or less depending on what is lite for you and high reps till you get form right then every week add a bit more weight then next thing you know in a few weeks you will be pushing heavy with no strain.

How To Deadlift Properly:

Preparation

With feet flat beneath the bar, squat down and grasp the bar with a shoulder width or slightly wider over hand or mixed grip.

Execution

Lift the bar by extending the hips and knees to full extension. Pull your shoulders back at top of lift if rounded. Return and repeat.
Throughout lift keep hips low, shoulders high, arms and back straight. Keep bar close to body to improve mechanical leverage.

It's also good to find someone in the gym who is doing deadlifts and knows what they are doing. Politely ask them to show you how to do it properly and they will be more than happy to help you.

That's harder than it sounds. I think I'm the only one who ever does them in my gym because I've never seen anyone else doing them. When people ask me how to train their legs, I tell them that they should be doing deadlifts and squats, and mostly what I get back is whining about how hard they are (so they don't like to do them).

Argh.... Same boat here.. Everyone looks at my funny when I do deads( like what the hell are you doing?) when I tel them deads and what they are for, they say oohh, its too hard... I hate that shit...

I like to visualize good technique before each lift and tell myself over and over to keep my head up and back straight

do you find that this helps? do you do it for every exercise...like bench press and other stuff? we've been talking abot this in my psych. class, i tried it for the first time before my last workout and don't know if it helped or not. it might have helped me to focus more but i'm not really sure.

yeah i've read alot about the power of visualization. your mind can make your body do anything. maybe i should try that.

squats and deads too hard? Why go to the gym? why are they even there? to sport their new workout clothes.....The hard shit is what gains muscle....I love the hard stuff
