I wonder if anyone here on musclechemistry could even close a #3?
I'm challenging everyone here to see if anyone can close a #3 or #4 (Yea Right). Post a pic of you closing one here with a piece of paper with your musclechemistry name written on it as proof. I just finished ordering the trainer :)

Another one I thought was really cool for anyone who thinks *giggles* they are strong.

Inch "Challenge" Dumbbell can also be ordered from ironmind.com

Can You Lift It?
An outstanding replica of the infamous 172-pound Thomas Inch dumbbell, this is a brutish-looking cast iron globe dumbbell with the short, fat handle that, for most people, ensures that it will never leave the ground. Grab this legend and lift it if you can. Overall length 20"; handle 4" long, 2.47" in diameter.

History Of The Thomas Inch Challenge Dumbell
The Thomas Inch Challenge Dumbbell
During the first half of this century from about 1910 until the early 1940's there was a professional strongman by the name of Thomas Inch who conducted stage shows of strength in Great Britain and Europe. He was known for his enormous grip strength and included in his show was the famous "Challenge Dumbbell". Inch offered almost $1000 (200 British Pounds) to anyone who could lift the dumbbell off the floor with one hand. At the conclusion of each show, Inch would lift the dumbbell to show it could be done. While the original dumbbell weighs 173 lbs, the handle is 2.5" thick which makes it very difficult to grip.

During those years no one else succeeded in lifting the barbell and on Mr. Inch's death the barbell finally passed into the hands of the British professional strongman David Prowse (the Darth Vader in Star Wars films). On special occasions it has been brought out for lifting attempts. Since Thomas Inch's death the Barbell has been lifted by some 7 or 8 men.

Alot of these things have to do with technique and other factors.

I think that a person would need a really big hand to go along with the strength to pick up the Inch Dumbell. I'm sure thousands of people are strong enough, just don't have the hand size.

This reminds me of several years back, I was at a wrastlin show, and the "Iron Sheik" was there. He spotted me before the show, and noticed my size (from bodybuilding) and thought I'd be a good patsy, so he had one of his assistants ask me if I wanted to get in the ring and take his challenge to twirl those hammers like he does. There was a cash prize if I could beat the Sheik.

Well, you have to twirl them both above your head in a helicopter fashion, it was kinda weird, but the strongest guy in the world could not just do it, because it took technique, kinda like juggling.
So the Iron Sheik got to feel good and brag that he could out do the "muscle man". I gave it a good try though, then I held the two sledge hammers straight out and asked if he could do that, it pissed him off. Then I started stomping and chanting "USA, USA" and the crowd joined in, he 'acted' very pissed, but he loved it.

So there's the story of my failure in front of many people. LOL.

That's a pertty good story Rat! Why aren't you a pro wrestler? Sounds like you'd be great at it!

BigGYMRAT... you have great tendon strength to be able to handle The Sheik's clubs like that! I did a short 2-week tour in southern Calif. with The Sheik, and I believe he had 3 different sets of those clubs, each set weighed differently. What did they feel like they weighed to you? If I remember correctly, he had sets that weighed 60, 70 & 80 lbs. Every night after the matches he brought his clubs to the local nightclub and used them out front, and he always attracted a good-sized crowd. Great job at the matches, too! You popped the crowd all by yourself!

I can tell you that his clubs never weighed 60 lbs. At least not the pair he had with him. He might have claimed that, but they were probably 8-12 lbs at the end of a handle, which is still heavy to hold up.

I'm no wrestler because those guys are true athletes, and I doubt I could hang.
People sometimes make fun of it cause it's "fake" but I know a few guys who were in it, and there is nothing fake about the stunts they pull off day after day.
I gotta lot of respect for those bros, they are insane!!

I'm going to pick up some grippers sometime, strong hands= big forearms :) Plus i want INSANE hand strength, tear phone books in half, lol
