blood test result, slightly elevated ALT level

I had bloodwork done yesterday and the results are in. Everything is normal except my ALT liver enzyme, which is about 50. The normal level is around 40. I had bloodwork done 2 months ago and my ALT level was 72, so thats a good thing i lowered it. My doctor thinks its my eating methods which is lots of protein, and wants me to ease up on that. I have another appointment around mid april (i'm going to the doctor for something else, not really my blood by the way.)

My question is, can i refuse bloodwork to be done on myself? I dont want to do it again because lets just say by then all my liver results will probably be messed up looking if you know what i mean. I'm gonna call the doctor tomorrow to ask if I have to get bloodwork done again. If he says yes, my plan is to say i dont want to cause im scared of needles or something, or just cancel the appointment a week before its scheduled. What do you guys think?

bump it

bump. I found an interesting read (I should have done this earlier) which was posted by scorpio about a comprehensive list of blood tests. here is a portion i copied and pasted about ALT:

ALT (Alanine Aminotransferase, previously known as SGPT)

This is yet another enzyme that is found in high levels within the liver. Injury or disease of the liver will result in an increase in levels of ALT. I should note however, that because lesser quantities are found in skeletal muscle, there could be a weight-training induced increase . Weight training causes damage to muscle tissue and thus could slightly elevate these levels, giving a false indicator for liver disease. Still, for the most part, it's a rather accurate diagnostic tool. Increased levels can be indicative of hepatitis, hepatic necrosis, cirrhosis, cholestasis, hepatic tumor, hepatotoxic drugs, and jaundice, as well as severe burns, trauma to striated muscle (via weight training), myocardial infarction, mononucleosis, and shock.

The sentence above, "Weight training causes damage to muscle tissue and thus could slightly elevate these levels, giving a false indicator for liver disease" is nothing my doctor mentioned, he just said my protein intake could be a problem, and I should 'ease up' on lifting. I havent called him yet but i dont want to throw this information in his face, but i'll mention this information to him in some subtle manner.

You dont have to get any medical treatment you dont want.
You have the right to refuse anything. its your health and your body.

As long as your sure that your liver levels are messed up cause of your diet and cycles then dont worry about it. If you have any concern that it might be something else then i suggest you go and get them checked again just to be sure.

Alwaysbetter to be safe than sorry.

Hope all is well
