cardio on an empty stomach

i always do it, but whats the purpose behind it? I never really wondered, just was the first thing i did!!! sorry for the stupid question, but i couldn't find any info!

You take your eca, clen or whatever you fancy before you guys run in the morn?

while you sleep your body is digesting whatever is left in your digestive tract,so essentially your fasting..so when you wake up you have nothing in your stomach to burn and your body then in turn will go ahead and attack your pre-exsistin fat deposits...

It helps activate the stored fat as energy, and that's how you lose bf%, clen and ECA stack will help too, and start eating as soon as you are done, and keep eating every 2-3 hours and see the bf% fall off...

You body has been feeding off your last meal for the whole 8 hours while you were sleeping. By the time you wake up there is little to no carbs for your body to burn as energy while doing the cardio so it will burn fat. One thing to ALWAYS REMEMBER. YOUR BODY WILL ALSO BE BURNING PROTEIN TOO, but the idea is to have a steady constant flow of BCAA's so that you dont start sacificing to much muscle while cutting the fat.

just makesure your hydrated well before you start your cardio as well. always helps with fat burning along wit the body running properly.

its sorta like doing your weights before your cardio. this way you burn up all your sugar stores and are closer to your fat burning zone when you step onto the treadmill. when im dieting for a contest if i cant do my cardio first thing in the morning the next best thing is right after weights. since its almost the same thing.

i see, i figured that was that was the logic behind it, but its just one of those "don't eat right before you go to bed" kind of rules, i never really wondered why it was the right way to do it, but i always knew it was best!

thanks fellas

What do u mean dont eat before bed, i am a HUGE believer that you should def have a high protein, med fat meal before bed to keep your body from canabilzing itself.

I have a 75 g protien shake before bed. I realize it's overkill but I cant see it having a negative effect(affect)....... whatever.

Theres nothing wrong with it b/c u have to remember that its twice as hard for the body to turn excess protein to fat as it can turn excess carbs to fat.

According to some studies that I've read, your also more likely to burn protien/muscle on an empty stomach if you do intense fast paced cardio. Slow/Moderate paced cardio will burn strictly fat since it won't require to much energy for your body to perform. Your body is going to take from the most effecient energy source for the task at hand. I have actually found this to be true. I used to do balls to the wall cardio and since I've toned it down and do moderate/slow (slow jog/fast paced walking) I've found that I maintain all muscle mass and burn more fat compared to the other way.

no i meant it was just like the old saying.....most people don't know why they "arent supposed to eat before bed" but they do it cause they think it makes them fat. I am a hell of a believer of eating proteins before i zonk out, but i was just using that as a reference to the fact that i never truly understood why i was runnin on an empty stomach!

sorry nick, by the time I posted I had completly forgotten the original thread....As for the old saying, my Grandmother used to use it in conjunction with "Because you'll get nightmares"

yeah you burn the most fat at a heart rate that is usually acheived at a quick walk. so in order to burn the most fat while saving muscle you gotta stay in the HR range.

Your glycogen stores are low after sleeping 8 hours or so, so when you do your cardio your body has no glucose to run on so it must tap into your fat stores :)

Morning cardio is a law I live by..... Walking for 35mins then waiting 30mins after and slamming down 12 egg whites and 1.5cups of oats and im off to work.

Not true, DW. You have ot think of it this way. When you do HIT cardio your body relaease a smaller amount of fat stores to burn but your body is much more efficient in burning those stores. When you do the low slow cardio, your body release much more fat to burn in the form of energy but the body is less efficient in burning the fat stores. That is why you do HIT for 15 minutes and you do slow, low cardio for 40 minutes.

Also you have to keep in mind what physical condiotn your in to be doing HIT cardio, i dont reccomend someone who hasnt done cardio to do it cause it will overtax the body.

That makes more sense. HIT cardio being WIN sprints or uphill sprints, stuff like that?

i agree also on the fact that cardio in the Am on empty stomach has to be done slow paced and about 40minutes will do the trick...
