The effects of supraphysiological doses of testosterone on angry behavior in healthy eugonadal men--a clinical research center study.

Anecdotal reports of "roid rage" and violent crimes by androgenic steroid users have brought attention to the relationship between anabolic steroid use and angry outbursts. However, testosterone effects on human aggression remain controversial. Previous studies have been criticized because of the low androgen doses, lack of placebo control or blinding, and inclusion of competitive athletes and those with preexisting psychopathology. To overcome these pitfalls, we used a double-blind, placebo-controlled design, excluded competitive athletes and those with psychiatric disorders, and used 600 mg testosterone enanthate (TE)/week. Forty-three eugonadal men, 19-40 yr, were randomized to 1 of 4 groups: Group I, placebo, no exercise; Group II, TE, no exercise; Group III, placebo, exercise; Group IV, TE plus exercise. Exercise consisted of thrice weekly strength training sessions. The Multi-Dimensional Anger Inventory (MAI), which includes 5 different dimensions of anger (inward anger, outward anger, anger arousal, hostile outlook, and anger eliciting situations), and a Mood Inventory (MI), which includes items related to mood and behavior, were administered to subjects before, during, and after the 10 week intervention. The subject's significant other (spouse, live-in partner, or parent) also answered the same questions about the subject's mood and behavior (Observer Mood Inventory, OMI). No differences were observed between exercising and nonexercising and between placebo and TE treated subjects for any of the 5 subdomains of MAI. Overall there were no significant changes in MI or OMI during the treatment period in any group.

Conclusion: Supraphysiological doses of testosterone, when administered to normal men in a controlled setting, do not increase angry behavior. These data do not exclude the possibility that still higher doses of multiple steroids might provoke angry behavior in men with preexisting psychopathology.

Most people take roids because they feel they are lacking an ability. Often this has to do with the ability to be aggressive towards others. When their bodies change on the juice their new found muscle tends to bring out the person they wanted to be. This is why many begun taking them in the first place.

Usually if someone (imature) goes from poor to rich they think they are now the shit. Same differance, its all in your head.

Actually concerning testosterone levels, it is not all in your head. People who have physiological low levels of hormone have been shown to be lacking in motivation and aggressiveness. These people are extremely laid back and pretty much let things happen around them. I know this from first-hand experience because I am on hormone replacement therapy for the rest of my life. That sense of well-being that you get while on is not an illusion. When I was given my first shot by the doctor, I remember that the next day I felt incredibly different--energized and motivated, almost like someone had 'turned the light on' in my head. I can still feel the difference between when I have to take another shot and the day after. I performed so well at my job that first year that I was given a $7000 bonus because I looked for opportunities without having to be told to do so. There is a lot more I could go into, but it is too much to post here.

Those of you who have normal hormone levels to begin with wouldn't normally have the motivation problem. When a normal person then takes in more hormone what they already have or feel (motivation, aggressiveness) is heightened similarly to the cases of people with low levels, however, the effect is much more significant because we're talking about really high levels here. For most people, that is all that happens, however, if you already have the tendency to anger quickly (the rage part or psychopathic part), being on extra hormone can and often will cause that to be amplified.

BTW, that graphic is pretty funny, lol, but I would bet that it is the common image that other people have of us, all thanks to media coverage. Because I was so much more aggressive that first year that I went on HRT, our traffic manager (who was a little 5' tall petite girl) felt threatened--she was actually a little afraid of me (I was 6' 0" and 180 lbs at the time--wow, that was 5.5 years ago, but I digress...), and I was told this in an evaluation meeting. I had to tone things down a bit on a conscious level--be extra nice to her so she wouldn't be intimidated by me.

Tony, I understand what your saying but I was talking about roid rage not motivation or being more sexual. The new sense of well being test brings is great but does it make you want to hit your mom or dad? Does it make you want to commit suicide? Drive a car 100mph into a tree? These are usually the things associated with rage. When I said its all in your head I should have said the rage is all in your head. I could be wrong though. A cycle has made me more aggressive to fighting but I think it was because I was stronger. It has also made me horny as hell but I never raped anyone who didn't want me to. Anyway thats what I meant on my post. I know some male juicers who are teddy bears and some low test ladies that are mean as hell. But yes I will agree one feels differant on lots of test.

Optimal, I did get what you were talking about. I said:

Which means that if you already have psychopathic tendencies, added aggression will make it worse. So it isn't actually the testosterone itself that causes the rage, but it contributes to it. I was just adding info that backed up what I was trying to say.

I'm still big 'teddy bear' myself, but my wife can be one mean gal if she wants.

BTW, crazyhorse, our 'traffic manager' steers quite well, lol! (She routes things through the office, thus the title.)

I just always like to take up for testosterone. A handfull of idiots is who made it a class III. No-one behind that law knew anything about it besides it makes you kill people. Lots of people read these posts and hopefully will gain some information. I can't wait untill the smoke clears and some real doctors step up to the microphones, old folks will be getting HRT everywhere and luvin it. I would love to see my chair ridden grandpaw get a 200mg. dose.

That is an obserd statement~!

I dont agree with the fact that roids put you in a state of anger. I actually fell my ephoric (sp) when i'm on. I feel great in genral and i dont look for ppl to skull f#ck to death.

I grew up with alot of people who injected and ate pills simply because they didn't want to be picked on anymore or wanted to impress ladies or they wanted to do better in football. Maybe not were your from but it happens here alot. These same people gained alot of confidence from using. I only personally know of a couple people who used for the BB sport itself.

Right or wrong there must be an explination why someone goes through all the trouble of getting juice and using. Sport maybe, what else?

Roid Rage is a farce! If you're an asshole when your not taking roid then your still an asshole while your on them. What makes me laugh is this is they will blame the gear not the person. Besides most people i talk about how they feel when on test is a positive thing. Media hype is all what it is!

England hit it right on the head--that is exactly right. They keep blaming the gear and not the person.

You can calm down now, Cyphon :p
