This is the time that your body actually NEEDS shittier carbs. Now, we all know that shitty carbs taste better, so why the insistence on eating so 'clean' when it doesn't benefit you as much?

Look, you guys gotta throw in some low fat or fat free cookies, jam or preserves, no fat or low fat frozen yogurt or low or no fat ice cream, marshmallow whip (that shit is GOOD) or some brown sugar added to some oatmeal. Hell, those packaged oatmeal thingies in the packets - you know the ones, you had em when you were a kid and they tasted so damn good you wanted them more than you wanted the 'chocolate frosted sugar bombs'.

I use reduced fat oreo cookies or fat free snackwell cookies in my postworkout shake and I am less than 3 weeks out! Just don't crazy on the AMOUNT of carbs.

Just throw in some shitty carbs and a bunch of whey. Mix it with water and ice and make it as tasty as possible.

Just my opinion but..........

i pulled this from an old post but its on the competitors forum and no one checks that out.

that sounds like a great idea for post-workout carbs but dont those sugars mainly consist of high fructose corn syrup? from my research, HFCS serves no purpose in bodybuilding. they do not replenish muscle glycogen but rather in the liver. please correct me if im wrong. im adding lean mass right now while not adding any fat. i only eat diet food, just more amounts. oats, chicken breast, lean steaks, eggs, protein powder, dextrose, natty pb, udos oil, greens. 6-7 meals a day cut carbs after 7pm if i sleep around midnight. if it doesnt matter reduced fat cookies or dextrose, then ill take the cookies, by all means. lol

well i bought some of the items skip wrote and will try it. i bought reduced fat oreo cookies, fat free ice cream and fat-free fig newtons. ill take in about 60-80g carbs with 40g whey. i have never really done this but its only post-workout and only 3 times/week. i just thought the high fructose corn syrup will not replenish muscle glycogen. perhaps 30g dextrose and 50g shitty carbs for a better mix?

I havent ever tried taking anything in like that PWO, i just make sure i take in dextrose b/c its GI is sooo high

no offense, but this thread makes me a little mad. starkraven, you have the right idea, but by calling them "shitty carbs" you are giving people the wrong idea. you want to take in carbohydrates that have a low glycemic index number or called simple carbs. not "shitty"!! things like fruits and vegetables, fruit drinks. not things with little to no nutritional value, like cookies or chocolate. these will only spike your insulin levels and and mildly refill your glycogen stores. also protein should be added to the mix aswell (but everybody already knows that).
I'm not flaming, we just want to give beginners the right info, that's all.

well i just took in 6 reduced fat oreo cookies like skip mentioned along with 20g maltodextrin (70g carbs total) that is already in the protein powder i have with like about 40g whey post-workout. i did squats so lets see how this works 3 times/week. i dont mind, cookies or straight dextrose. im not dieting anymore or bulking, im on a mission to add lean mass. btw, fruits and fruit drinks contain fructose, like high fructose corn syrup, it does not replenish muscle glycogen well either. even if i do continue this, i will always have some maltodextrin or dextrose in the mix.

well actually QB, post workout you would want to take in high GI carbs such as simple sugars, or dextrose. You are intentionally spiking insulin levels to force-feed those nutrients (along with a high amount of protein) into your muscle tissues and replenish liver glycogen. Regardless of cutting or bulking you would still do this...

That's why some guys use insulin post workout...

Any other time of day you could be right, but you are not in this case.

biggerstronger, does replenishing liver glycogen benefit muscle glycogen or something? im totally clueless but i do know that fructose and high fructose corn syrup replenish liver glycogen, and i know that dextrose/maltodextrin replenishes muscle glycogen but skip didnt write that for nothing.

liver glycogen has an effect on blood glucose levels...He's just saying that we can eat a good amount of simple carbs post workout without any guilt. As long as you keep the fat down to a minimum (or close to zero) you can eat cookies, ice cream, etc. regardless of whether you are cutting, bulking, or dieting for a show.

ok good. i bought some reduced fat oreo cookies, fat free fig newtons and fat free ice cream and will take it with the whey i have.

glucose ~are what kind of carbs...and what does that do to your pancrase isnt that a gland tht regulates your sugar?

Take that ice cream add 1/3 pack of fat free pudding mix to it, some whey, 1 or fat free milk and fruits if you want. Makes it thick, drinks like a meal, lol. Damn good and has alot of high GI carbs
