Sorry to report that DON YOUNGBLOOD has passed away in his home, apparently the cause of death being a massive heart attack.

Don stunned the bodybuilding world by beating the previously "unbeatable" Vince Taylor at the 2002 Masters O. Don went on to forfill his lifelong dream of competing in that years Mr. Olympia later that same year.

Don just celebrated his 51st birthday April 7, and ran a very successful trucking business in his home state of Arkansas with his wife and children.

yeah...i read this last week...it's a sad losss....Don was my age and taht is an even bigger shock....His presence will be missed in the community. Md

I knew that as well a few weeks ago.
It is scary since I am going to be 40 and he really didn't start getting into bodybuidling till his 40's....A lot riskier to carry that much muscle .. very hard on the system.
RIP.

Yep. The main problem is how big the heart gets. The heart is not meant to be that big. It places too much stress on the heart and can make it near impossible to get enough blood pumping through your body.

A risk everyone should know about. I know on the boards we preach about how you can use steroids safely and the media hypes up the negatives, but there are definatley negative side effects that can detrimentely affect your health and life.

Don was 34 when he got started into bodybuilding....at that point it was starting as a hobby and he soon realized he had a strong desire to take it further...in a short period of time he accomplished a lot....he will be remembered for those accomplishments

The guy on the left, Hans Hopstaken, used to be the manager, and then owner of my old Gym back in the early-mid 90's....Foothill Gym in monrovia, Ca....the old location on foothill blvd. I just about lost it when I found out he had died. I had been out of the game for a long time when I did a search on him and discovered the news. He was cool as hell and was always willing to sit and talk about training, supplementation and diet...for free. He always talked about natural bodybuilding, yet knew ALOT about gear. He had been slowly building his body up over the course of 20 years. The progression was so gradual that it appeared he he actually practiced natural bodybuilding the whole time. Yet the guy was built like house. He had packed on something like 3-4 pounds a year since he started. When I found out the news of his passing, I found alot of recent pictures of him, and it became obvious he was no longer natural. I was especially shocked to see he had become pro. When I knew him, he was an amateur bodybuilder. We used to always make fun of his aussie accent. He used to say, "in dee ofeseason, I eat alote a buuguz and froys" (burgers and fries). Always hard to find out about the passing of an old mentor.
