Hypothetical question about homebrew

I was wondering if it is possible to contract a disease while using homebrew gear. I don't want to sound paranoid but is it possible that you inject (even with BA and filtering) a disease like herpes for exemple. I know the HIV virus dies after a short period of time outside a host but what about other shits out there ?

Serious answers please.

Bro'...I seriously doubt any thing would survive the heating process honestly.....

Hi :)

Ok, thing is I never bake.. I use the 5% BA + 0.20 or 0.22 microns filter. Thats why I wonder.. I made my homebrew almost 1 year ago and it still looks awesome, no crystals to anything, just nice gear :)

So vent it and bake it in the oven and you can be sure that it is 'good to go'.

Don't do what I did and vent with a hypo. The plastic will melt all over the top of your vial - Doh.

These would have to be airborne viruses or put directly into the gear........Just not likely. The likely thing would be bacteria.

Thanks for the answers fellas, I dont thinik anything would survive in BA for a year lol

If I decide to bake, how is it done ? I mean the time and temperature of oven ?

I know I need to vent the vial with a needle, will the plastic on the needle strong enough heat wise ?

Thanks

My oven is gas so it has no temp gauge. I set it on level '5' and measured it with a digital therm. @ 200 degrees F. Left it in for 45 minutes.

As I said in my earlier post, my hypo melted all over my bung. These days I just remove the bung altogether and re-crimp it on once the vial has cooled...

Hope this helps bro

Yup it helps, thanks :)

You say you removew the top of vial and re-crimp after ? Im not sure its a good idea, bacteria in the air can fell in the vial.. Thats why usuallu you use a pin for venting, it keeps the sterile vial sterile.

Or maybe I didnt understand correctly

All you do is keep the baked vial in the oven until it has cooled enough to handle it... Aint gonna be no airborne bacteria in that oven if its just been on 250 degrees for 30 minutes...

So leave it (with the door closed or slightly cracked - to speed up the cooling process) for 30 -60 minutes, open the oven door, put your sterilised bung (a weak bleach solution or some baby sterilising fluid will sterilize the bung - leave it soaking whilst you bake the vial) straight onto your vial and crimp. Bingo!

Or just put a piece of foil below in your muffin pan to catch anything that melts and take off any plastic that you can. That would probably be pretty easy and require no extra work. The only probelm would be if plastic got pulled in when it cooled.

bro cyphon hit the nail on the head, your fine. I use 2.5 ba and never bake a damn thing that is for me.
