can one just use any oil such as cottonseed, grapeseed, peanut, safflower etc right off the grocery shelf ? does it need to be "treated" first ? or will the BA & filtering be enough to sterilize the solution ?

you could but I wouldn't advise it. If you do I would sterilize it by heating it in an oven for a while then filter thru a .22 whatman.........I mean till thats all done you might as well just bought it from a lab supply company, prefiltering thru a .22 is gonna piss you off

IMO you should always use USP products. The stuff on the grocery store shelf could have all kinds of contaminants that even filtering would not take out.

I agree, I wouldn't use anything off a grocery store shelf and feel comfortable with it
