no partner

this blows i live in this small town , and there is nobody wanting to lift just me and one other guy and we go to different gyms. talk about hard on motivation. and when i do find a partner they only last 3 weeks tops.

I can relate to you buddy. BiggerStronger was my workout partner for the better part of three years but a couple of moves and a few females, and we get a workout in together every other month or so now.

I was lucky enough to find a guy at work who at first missed too many day for me to consider him a w/o partner. Then one day all of sudden (maybe he saw the weight I was putting on him), he started to nag me if I missed a day. Very cool dude, ended up becoming great friends. Unfortunaley, during my recovery from my shoulder, he moved away for school.

Now, I'm in the same boat. No workout partner, but maybe it's best this way because I don't need anyone trying to push me harder than what I'm (dr.) ordered to do.

I have these trouble in a huge suburb of 2 major metropoltin areas, so I can image how hard it is on you in a small town.

dude im in the same boat, i wish i had a work out partner, i feel it is so much better when you have some1 to push you harder and harder. Im trying to bulk up, and the sets that i NEED to be doing, are like low reps, and the last few im not suppose to get on my own, but i dont have a spot, so i cant go as heavy as i want to. I feel a good workout partner can bring a lot to the table. I moved off to college, so now i cant find any1 who works out at the same gym and is around my age, sucks.

I think it better to have someone just like you...I wish i could clone my self....It's hard when you tryin to work around someone else's schedule....but then again you might just have to find that motivation in your self

There are positives and negatives with working out without a partner. One of the positives is you can get your workout done in about 25-30mins or so. (at least for me) A negative is the fact that you can never go too heavy on certain excercises and you don't have that extra motivation on some days when you need the push.

not going heavy is what sucks like on bench at the end of my work out i end up singleing up to 375 or 395 and should be doing sets with some of that weight, but u get stuck and have to dump who knows where the fuck that bar is going. could end up with more brain damage than ive already got.

I train alone and i get the best workouts that way, no one nagging or complaining

I agree...although it's a pain in the ass constantly asking people for spots and even then no one ever does it right.

I hate it so much when your spotter just grabs the bar because he sees you struggling. I usually ask the smallest girl I can find for a spot 1. because it would be completely embarrassing not getting the weight up 2. becuase she can't help that much anyhow. 3. because I like girls, if only to look at (Damn Marriage, lol)

I train solo. I wish I had a parter when I do negative sets or just spotting so I can get more gains. Only good part I don't have to wait on anyone or smell anyones pits! Bummer dude, I will just grab someone for a quick spot. I have to pass on most the negs. cause I won't ask a stranger to pull heavy ass weight. Sometimes I use machines like when benching to failure if I don't have a spotter.

I also workout solo. I'm with Glen in that I will use machines when I want to take it to failure or do negatives. The bigger guys in my gym act like they're too good for you if you aren't close to their size so I don't ask them for spots.

I always work out by myself. i can go at my own pace and do whatever i want without hearing someone bitch. Like maybe my partner wants to bulk and i want to cut, it just doesnt work out.

never had a partner myself, my schedule is too hectic and I dont have a "set" workout time or days.

I just go to failure, and then do partials or negatives (periodized) when I know I cant get another rep and have no spot.

Not to Hijack, but how does that work for you, having different workout times all the time? You're not one of those routine guys like me I guess? If it's not routine, I aint going do it...

I can see what you'll have to say about the joints on the smythe, I ended up having to get wraps for my wrists becasue I'd tweak 'em when racking the weight back up. Especially on the close-grip bench. Owwwie :surprised

hey poof try pre-exhausting with flyes then go to bench or incline-keep the elbows flared out to put the maximum stress on the chest
if you pre-exhaust this will not only keep your tris and shoulders fresh but your joints too (at least in my experience)

well, I work a swing shift....so "routine" is never really in my vocabulary.

But, generally, as a result.....somedays I feel like working out and somedays Im dreading it.....but who doesnt go through that?
