well i am gonna get one in each elbow. i am a competitive athlete and have been having some severe pain from my elbows. I have never had a cortizone shot before but i have heard some things about them. I was just wondering what you guys thought about it.....regardless i gotta do something....there isnt an injury just alot of pain. the MRI came out fine. So it seems that this is my only option

thanks fellas

It's just a quick fix Bro. Not a cure, but will help you get through those tough times.

I would avoid those if you can...not good for ya bro and like chuck said it will only mask the pain for awhile. My dad had one for his back and he said it made his back feel worse after a short while.

I've had them all over my legs. (hips, knees, ankles...) They served the purpose, got me through the game. One thing you have to watch out for is you won't feel a thing, so just know your limitations and don't try to push more than you would normally try to handle.

Agreed.
P.s. nice new avatar tom! MMX2 must have hooked you up.

yeah its just so damn weird. I really dont have an injury so to say. Just like one bad shin splint or something in my elbows they just start throbbing and it takes away my strength to a rediculous degree....my grip is completely gone. I think im gonna go through with it. i see the team doc on monday and its gonna be his call

I've gotten them before when I would screw up my lower back. They are magic.

BUT, from what I have read, they are a short term fix. It may actually put you in a worse position long term.

I have elbow probelms too. It sucks as my tris are getting bigger and my bis are getting smaller since I haven't done curls in five months. Hell, it hurts when I let my 4 year old hang on my arm (a game we have) and he isn't even 40 pounds.

Keep us posted about how you are feeling later. I do the things that they suggest for tennis elbow and this helps a bit. I am also starting to do curls wiht LIGHT weights.

Sounds like tendonitis. A colleague of mine had a cortizone shot in one elbow, and he couldn't even use his arm for about a week. Usually it is better to correct what is causing the tendonitis than to do the shot. I was getting tendonitis myself until I forced myself to be really strict in the way I did certain curl and tricep exercises. That seemed to fix my problem without having to get a shot.

Decide if youre hurt or injured, I know you know the difference because youre an athlete, if your injured get it fixed. If your hurt get your shot, be carefull and continue competing.

yeah bro im hurt, ill be the first to admit an injury but the pain is what stops me not the joint functioning....hopefully everything works out.

Cortisone is a Pile of SHIT
YOu need to do a lot more research if you think that they are a good thing at all.
Cortisone does a few things
- it can decrease inflammation which is good but usually it doesnt
- it masks pain levels which usually adds to the injury because people push themselves too hard to do things because they feel better even though nothing has been done to strengthen or FIX the problem
but
the most important reason not to get them is
CORTISONE TURNS YOUR TENDONS AND LIGAMENTS TO MUSH.
( i know this 100% and have done alot of research on it )
It creates a detereoration of tendons and ligaments and actually weakens and wrecks the possibility for rehab.

DONT GET THIS DONE

Have you considered a combo of anti-inflammatories and pain-killers, much safer than cortizone in my opinion

ive read some abstracts of research articles that talk about how anti-inflamatories can hinder recover. if you're interested in a link, PM me.

ive had them in my knee before and didnt really notice any difference. i didnt get it for pain. my knee fills up with fluid from time to time. ive had it drained many times but it keeps commin back. last time they drained it they took out 90cc of liguid and put in a cortizone shot. it filled right back up though. i used to kneel on it and pop it into my leg and it would be gone for a while
