Recreational drugs in bodybuilding.

Ive been in the loop of bodybuilding for many years and ive seen competetive guys use painkiller, benzos and marijuana all to aid in the progress.....How do you guys feel about opiates, benzos and weed use in bodybuilding.

Oviously the opiates let them lift harder with minimal pain and kills pain while recovering

Bezos use to control agressiveness and for sleep

Weed used to increase appetite.

i think it attracts negative attentioin to our sport and therefore i think it is bad for the sport. I agree with the uses, some are legitimate and need it. But recreational drugs attract authorities and i dont like that.

my motto is: smoke it, snort it, drink it, poke it. lmao. j/k bro

I don't see anything wrong with occasional use of these things but constant use on the other hand is a problem for many reasons.

Agree with BS, moderation is key.

And body2see has a point with the type A personalities......never thought about that. I love to play hard!

Definitely agree with body2see.. Most of the guys at my gym party pretty hard every weekend. I too was a "party animal" and for the last 6 years partied, trained, geared HARD!! But it has taken its toll on my body and 3 months ago I decided enough was enough and quit everything but the hard training.. I feel great since giving up drinking, drugs etc. I think recs are ok in moderation but I'm an all or nothing kind of guy so I had to quit!

I don't think you can say you are using rec drugs as part of your sporting life, if you choose to use them they are a separate issue to bodybuilding. I do not believe they have any necessary place in sport.

Shockmeister had a brilliant observation. Most folks who use rec drugs party hard, and it eventually takes a toll on you. Some folks don't get addicted to things, no matter what. But there are not that many of them. If you are hard into the body building scene, then you are probably a person who can get addicted ('cause you are addicted to lifting and are doing it much more than most folks).

The probelm with any of these things is that you can become addicted to them. That doesn't mean that are bad, but you need to be careful. I don't take more than an asprin a day, and I only drink a couple of drinks a month. If you are on gear, and you want to keep your liver happy, you shouldn't be drinking much anyway.

Some things have no use though...crack, meth, heroin, coke. These drugs will just screw up your life bad. No point on even taking them for one day. A lot of BB's use this stuff and it's a bad thing.

I honestly don't agree with smoking pot every day either nor should you take benzo's or painkillers everyday.

I don't think anyone really needs to use any 'recreational' drugs. You can increase appetite, minimize pain, and control aggressiveness/get sleep via different methods that are way better for your body in the long run.

Im not saying i smoke weed, but i have a few times, and im not joking when i say this, i could get about 5 stakes and be fine. I wouldnt use this to gain weight, but man i gaurentee it would do the job, its rediculus how much i can eat when have the munchies man, its funny as hell to watch me eat when im high to, cause i like never stop chewing, its wierd, but no i wouldnt do it just to gain weight, to much of a risk, and it does bring negative attention to yourself and the sport.

I think nubain is a good example of a drug bodybuilders used saying it helped bodybuilding when in fact it was just a highly addictive opiate.
Things like weed are okay in moderation its all about knowing when to realise enjoyment is turning to dependance

Yea I meant in moderation and only to achieve goals that wouldnt be achieveable without assistance. I think it's a realistic part of BB. I know most dont go that route but just wanted to see others view points on the subject.

I don't agree with ANY rec drugs in bodybuilding in ANY quantities.

However, it is so pahtetic, TONS of pros use rec drugs to stay in shape. You wonder how they can eat junk, be huge but with abs off season? Becuase they live on coke, speed, etc.
Imagine a junkie, how lean he is. Now add tons of gear, training and food. He'll get big, but stay lean.
That's the truth of it, not GH, etc.
Pathetic really.
