Glutamine question

Okay, this sounds easy but I know after you workout you should take in carbs like bread that digest rapidly to shut down the flow of cortisol which breaks down muscle tissue and can add fat. Know my question, is Glutamine HKG with creatine an acceptable substitute? I got this gift for Christmas-the HSB mass stack and it has the cellmass creatine in it. WOuld have rather got gear but.

I got a sweater for Christmas, I would have rather gotten a moaner but oh well....

seriously though, the other reason you need carbs is to help replace the muscle glycogen you burn while working out.. I think you should stick to carbs but no reason you can't have both

Glycogen resynthesis in skeletal muscle following resistive exercise.

Pascoe DD, Costill DL, Fink WJ, Robergs RA, Zachwieja JJ.

Human Performance Laboratory, Ball State University, Muncie, IN 47306.

The purpose of this investigation was to determine the influence of post-exercise carbohydrate (CHO) intake on the rate of muscle glycogen resynthesis after high ********* weight resistance exercise in subjects not currently weight training. In a cross-over design, eight male subjects performed sets (mean = 8.8) of six single leg knee extensions at 70% of one repetition max until 50% of full knee extension was no longer possible. Total force application was equated between trials using a strain gauge interfaced to a computer. The subjects exercised in the fasted state. Post-exercise feedings were administered at 0 and 1 h consisting of either a 23% CHO solution (1.5 g.kg-1) or an equal volume of water (H2O). Total force production, preexercise muscle glycogen content, and degree of depletion (-40.6 and -44.3 mmol.kg-1 wet weight) were not significantly different between H2O and CHO trials. As anticipated during the initial 2-h recovery, the CHO trial had a significantly greater rate of muscle glycogen resynthesis as compared with the H2O trial. The muscle glycogen content was restored to 91% and 75% of preexercise levels when water and CHO were provided after 6 h, respectively.

How about explaining it to us morons (or atleast me)? does glutamine work vs. carbs or not????

Yes, glutamine given the correct struckture can be quickly absorbed thus blunting the effect of cortasol. Fast digesting carbs have to first break down-although rapidly to produce the glycogen required to feed muscles. Now, if you can find a quality product I am sure it will do the trick. Cost and quality would be a factor that using simple fast absorbing raw carbs like bread you would not run into.

hey guys would maltodextrin and 5g's glutamine pre and post be good or not??? i thought fast acting carbs like malto were good pre and post let me know what you think.

Can you take some muscle-milk and mix it with orange juice for the sugar? It's got plenty of glutamine in it and proteins...
?
