How many times can you get 225?

225 is a weird weight for me.

Usually when you hit something for as many times as you possibly can (until failure), if you try the same weight for a second set with a regular rest pause between sets, you usually hit that weight half as many times as you did the 1st go. Then for the 3rd set with the same weight, you hit it usually half as many times as you did the 2nd set. I found this to be very true, as have all of my workout partners throughout the years.

So it would look something like: 12 reps, 6 reps, 3 reps

I say 225 is weird because I can hit it almost as many times each set, for all 3 sets. I actually did this last week funny enough.

I hit it 19 times, then 19 times again on the 2nd go, then the last set I hit it 15 times.

I found it very weird that I hit it like that.

I know 19 times is not that much. I found that I'm more of a power guy than a high rep guy. My friend who is a trainer who's max is about 50lbs less than mine can actually hit 225 a few more reps than me. I think he got 25 or something?

Bench is not my strong lift. I don't think I have ever tried. I did do 195 for 22 before, so I could probably get 225 for 10-12...

Yesterday i actually wanted to see how many i could do and i hit 20, and the way to failure. Then I hit 315 3 times...

i am going to have to try this and see what i come up with. i have never done it for reps. i know i can get 315 for 8 sometimes 9

the most i did for reps was 250 for 37 reps i was shooting for 50 reps with 225 but my coaches changed the testing weight to 250

I tryed this 10 years ago when i powerlifted and got 36, and last time i tryed it maybe 2 years ago i got mid 40 about 44 clean and proper and managed to get 50 but the last 6 were horrible form

Do you usually train heavy? Im more of a power guy too, but I think its only cause I train that way. I rarely go above 6 reps. Im actually built like an endurance athlete though.

OK I've been thinking about your post all week Jay and I've got a theory about it. I think it has to do with the fact that you're a football player and you have more strength endurance than most. If I remember high school football we did a lot of things like Up-Downs and were always hitting the ground and doing lots of pushups and drills and shit. Football usually involves both strength and endurance so you probably have a high number of both fast twitch and slow twitch fibers and since 225 isn't that heavy for you compared to some you're able to rep it out and then recover fairly quickly to hit another high set.

Had to try it tonight...I got 12. I switched to dumbells a while back, this is the first time I've used the barbell in months. I know...Excuses!

Edit: 5'9" 190lbs. natty

So has anyone tried the 225 for max reps? HOW MANY???

Yea, how about people post their bodyweighnext to their number of reps as well.

My best:

Body Weight: 175
Bench Press: 225
Number Reps: 5

Thanks,

Of course I haven't lifted weights in 8 months due to some major changes in my life but I'm back and I'm starting to get back into the Irongame that I miss so much.

I'll keep everyone posted on my slow progress. I'm going natty for a good couple months.

I know what you mean bro, bodyweight has a lot to do with it because obviously you're stronger. Good luck on the comeback bro I was out of it for a while for my own reasons and getting back into it has been awesome, I'm probably only pushing about 6 or 7 reps for 225 now myself but i'm 200lbs so I should be a lot stronger... We'll get there bro.
