Youre going to need to do abs more than 1 time per week, more like 5 times if you want to get the results you need and to help strengthen youre core which is very important in football. Also i really would as more to that leg day like lunges or leg press and also do some romanian deadlifts for your hammys. Ive never played football nor am i familiar with their training regimines but this seems like it needs some work.
heres a link for romanian deadlifts, scroll down to the 3rd or 4th example, and no doing abs that often is not over training, you can actually train them 7 days a week if you really wanted.
Listen to Vertigo that's some good input. Maybe start hitting abs twice a week and adding a day every week so you don't burn out. Every other day for abs should do the trick if you do them right.
Where does your cardio fit into this routine? You're going to need to work on speed and endurance and nothing will help with that except running.

I think doing pushups and handstand pushups to failure are going to burn you out before you get to the heavy weights on your bench. Try just knocking out 20 - 30 pushups for a warmup and that's all.
