Leg Press resistance

I always wonder how much resistance I was actually pushing with my legs. Then I found a formula to figure it out. You multiply the weight you use by .707. For example 800lbs x .707 = 565.6 of resistance. I dont know how correct that is but I thought it was neat so I posted it.

Where did you find this formula? How did they measure it to get this .707 number? This is something I would like to know too. Do you have a link or more info or anything?

i think its got something to do with the 45deg angle of most leg presses. youre not pushing the weight straight up.

I'm sure that's right, I was just curious how they put the number .707 on it. Is there a formula that uses the weight and angle to calculate actual load, etc?
