Ive never heard of anybody building their neck with ab work , I have never even felt a burn in my neck from ab training. The only thing I really ever feel my neck is in conjunction with my traps on shrug work. But I have always seen serious contact sport athletes train their necks. I was about to start training it a while back when I was boxing but never got around to taking it that serious.
I want to get back into it and turn pro. I have old sparring partners who have moved on to being golden glove ; state , regional , and national champs, Soon to be turning pro.
Ive always known about front and back neck work , but never done any.
Yes mike tyson had neck work where he rolled and I think I also seen him do head harness work for it , I have seen mayweather do head hardness work for sure though. But only doing to back , and back to front...... Never any turning head shoulder to shoulder. Or tilting head shoulder to shoulder.
Ive always read that moving the head/neck in certain directions while doing exercises like shrugs and etc can hurt your neck. But I havent been able to find any information whether to do them or to refrain from them. and if thats just when doing those exercises....... As long as you dont go too heavy like a dumbass its a natural movement so I would guess it was ok but just asking.
Long ramble put short..... Sport specific
I know neck flexion and extension is safe , but unsure of tilt and turning.
