NEW YORK -- The New York Knicks announced before the Cleveland Cavaliers game on Saturday night that starting point guard Jeremy Lin will be out approximately six weeks with a small chronic meniscal tear in his left knee, based on an MRI exam.

Lin will have arthrosopic surgery early next week in New York to repair the injury.

Lin has missed the past three games with what the team was calling a sore left knee, but there was a sense something could be more serious when he went for an MRI. In addition, Lin did not address the media in Atlanta on Friday night, leading to speculation the secrecy of the MRI results revealed something worse, which is now the case.

Baron Davis, who aggravated his hamstring against the Hawks, will continue to be the starter. Coach Mike Woodson, addressing reporters before the Cavaliers game, said it will be unlikely the team signs any point guards. In addition to Davis and Mike Bibby off the bench, Woodson said Toney Douglas can expect to see an increased role.

Just when they seemed to be making another move in the standings something like this happens

thats a real shame! The knees aint nothing to mess with either!

This is bad for the Knicks.. I like don't really like watching basketball.. But i like watching players that have a good story behide them...

Knees to a bbell player are tge same as a pitchers arm! Use it too much early on when they haven't been used like that in a long time will get u this result. Mike Dantoni is responsible for this, the kid played too many minutes too fast, dantoni should have watched his min a lot more carefully. A manager would never go out out and have a pitcher throw 9 innings in 3 or 4 straight seasons after the pitcher had been sitting on the end of the bench for two months! It's a damn shame for this kid!

I agree to a degree, but it's one thing for a pitcher to pitch 9 innings and a basketball player to play 35-40 minutes. The basketball player can and probably should be in good enough shape to withstand the punishment from playing. It's not as though they've never played that many minutes in the past, maybe not that season, but they should still be in shape enough to play those minutes. A baseball pitcher knows that he can throw 110-120 pitches max and that's all they will go. They know their capabilities almost to a pinpoint.

Yeah but after a pitcher throws a 110 pitches he gets 5-6 days off. Bball players play 3-4 games a week normally and with this shortened season they are playing 6-7 games in 10 days plus traveling all over the United States! It's hard enough on players who have done this a few years but for someone whose never played consistently in the NBA your asking for an injury! I played college basketball and played on Tuesdays and Saturday night mostly and I'll be the first to say that even at 20-21 years old my knees and ankles always hurt the day after a game so I can't imagine what that many games in that short amount time does to a body! The kid got used up by someone trying to save his own job!

Yea, you bring up a point I wasn't thinking of. I wasn't taking into account that pitchers do only pitch every 5 days or so. The shortened season seems to really be taking a toll on all of the players and like you said someone who wasn't really expecting to play that much probably can't handle like the everyday players.
