Sciatica keeping me out of the gym

I have been out of the gym for 7 weeks now due to unbearable pain from sciatica. It came on after I did some heavy t-bar rows. At first I thought it was just a minor tweak in by back where the spine meets the hip. Then the pain started going into my hip. Sometimes my foot gets numb. There is no way I can work out until I get this resolved, and it is killing me to stay out of the gym. Anybody else ever have this problem?

not that exact injury but i missed a full year and half in May 2011 til the beginning of this year basicly, i mean totally fully out of the gym , cant move, kind of shit from needing a nech fusion c4-c7 so i know how ya feel, but no i never had pain from that area specificly and very sorry to hear u been out so long

have you been looked at by a dr , X-rays, mri,? it sucks i know....but for the record, you bounce right back, the body knows how to put it back on fast, muscle memory and maturity is a beautiful thing

Yea I remember when you went through that Presser. Actually, this past week I have noticed some improvement this past week. Maybe I will see a chiropractor and get an adjustment. You got that right about muscle memory. I took 10 month off once, and I was back to where I was in less than 2 months.

I hear u I used to get sciatica real bad.to the point of wanting to give up the gym...do u do any execises at home to stretch out you pelvis and back. .u should be doing them 3-4times a day..also I dont think a chiropractor will help with sciatica as its in the hip area..but I does feel like lower back as we'll. .ive been pain free for nearly two years now.in the end I found it was dead lifts and heavy squats..no more dead lifts and no more heavy heavy squats.

Let us know im sure I can find some thing on utube about the exercise I used to do..I remember well on my dinner break. teabreak 6am 9pm bedtime..like 6 times a day doing these exercises man they hurt but it worked.im sure if u go and pay a chiropractor he will just give u some exercise to do..and if he try's to play about with your back I think he is just trying to take your cash..

Hope you make a fast recovery bro, anytime your dealing with the spine/nerves you need to seek some expert advice. That can cause some long term nerve damage, loss of feeling, and the sciatic nerve controls a lot of important things, numbness can be a result of a compressed/bulging/ herniated disc. I'm with Presser here, CT/MRI get it looked at by an MD/Surgeon. Then chiro guy, it just sounds like you may have a little more of a problem then alignment since it's been 7 weeks. Get it worked out bro,

Thanks for the advice and kind words guys. A special thank you to charliebigspuds. I will try the exercises. If that doesn't work, I will see an M.D.

I would still look at booking an appointment with an MD..thoses exercises take a few weeks to help and use and anti inflammatory as well..like monkey said its more than an aliment issue..scaitica is not a quick fix..and I still do the exercise now..hope u are good to go soon enough.

Well I'll be damn! No sciatica pain at all this week. WTF is up with that? I am so looking forward to getting back into the gym. I won't be doing any more squats or t-bar rows for a while though...lol

I had sciatica in the early 80's. it was caused by an injection into the nerve. Pain was sickening. Constant pain. Went to a neurosurgeon and he prescribed Dialatin, an anti-seizure med. And it worked within days. See a specialist.

Yeah I will still get it looked at. I know it could rear its ugly head at any time. Thanks to all for your concerns and words of advice.
