Filtering?

Hi peeps just a quick newbie question.

What is the easiest way to filter oil? Cos I just went through five 0.22 syringe filters and only 2.5ml of oil to show.

Oil was warm but filter just won't let out oil.

I have tried filtering using using a bottle top filter but it was same and I have a proper vacuum pump. Gonna have to try a millipore steri cup

For me it take near 3h to filter 20ml through 0.22u syringe filter. It really a pain in ass...
Next I'll try milipore stericup!

Test E in sesame oil. I melt ( <40c) TE in 5% BA and 15% BB then add oil.
I will invest in Buchman funnel pump system :)

just wondering a lot of people say that filtering with a 22 pore is over kill and a 45 will work

others say that the 45 is just a waste of time and really doesn't sterilize...opinions?

The .22 is mainly for filtering store bought oils not usp grade filtered. If you have usp filtered oil .45 is ok. But .22 is still recommended/

so the 45 will still get the job done as far as sterilizing everything? I was under the impression that 45 is for oils and 22 is for water based...

Been using 45 for years on oils just wondering if there is an advantage to the 22

Never heard that. Usually store bought oils need to be filtered twice. Once before they are heated with a .45. Then the final filter .22 before you bottle. .22 is more of a standard for the home brewer that is not um.....working in a sterilized facility...so as not to kill ones self...:drooling:

well what I usually do is buy the finished product-then filter it into a sterilized vial just to be on the safe side-all oils

do you recommend a 45 or 22 for this

still wish the old universal kits were around...they were pretty much idiot proof and you could make almost anything with them

that way you knew what was in the bottle

Unless you are heating it up then putting it through a .22 you are not really accomplishing anything. What I would do is heat that batch up to the recommended temp which is 210 -220 degrees for 20 minutes in either hot water or a oven with a 18 guage for a vent. I would then follow the dudes advice by diluting it down with more sterile oil then filtering it thru a .22. That really should work. You should just make your own test e if you are going thru all this trouble. You might have contaminated it with your .45 filter. You need to use a sterile filter by the way to filter. .45s are generally not sterile. Your final filter process has to be a STERILE filter. It will come sealed in a sterile bag.

Primary(first filter process) filter are .45s. Final filter is sterile .22

I'm throwing that batch out-the 45 and the 22 that I use are from Whatman and they are sterile

just wondering if there was an advantage to using the 22 for oil vs the 45

Tbh I've only ever brewed test E and I've used .22 and .45, touch wood all ok no infections.
