Really Digging Workouts Lately

Thread title says it all! My gym membership gives me access to all of them in the chain, and there are 2 about equal distance from my house, in opposite directions. Been switching up between them. I also have a halfway decent home gym in my basement, including 300 lbs of Olympic plates (which is plenty for me to get a good workout) and a pretty decent rack of dumbbells. Plus I have the gym I set up at work, which is a "light commercial" multi station cable machine like you'd find in a mid level hotel fitness room. So I've been jumping around, doing my heavy leg workouts at the gym for sure, getting everything else in wherever I feel like it, or have time for. The frequent change of scenery and equipment is doing me some good, at least mentally. I'm a creature of habit, so if I go to the same place all the time, I end up doing the same things over, and over. I get in a rut. I'm really digging the variety!

Goodness! You have a gym everywhere you go! Haha! That's great though man. Glad to hear it!

That's awesome! I love it when I'm focused and 100% in training mode. I've had a steady few months of this and I'm taking advantage of it as best as I can! I go to 2 gyms and I know what you mean. One of the gyms had a lot of pros there so it's good motivation!

I recently changed gyms and it has had a tremendous impact on my physique. I was used to being the freak at the old gym, but at the new gym I wasn't much of a stand out at all. Obviously that wouldn't work for me so it was time to step it up

What's wrong with Planet Fitness??? Lol! No, Retro. Which isn't all that great, but it's ok. But changing up definitely is good for me mentally, even though it goes against my nature. Funny how that works...

Oh man. Did you really just ask what's wrong with planet fitness?! I may have just lost a little respect for you. Jk. Unless you actual go there.
Planet fitness is not a real gym. It is a place where fat and out of shape people go so they can post on Facebook they are going to a gym. That place is against anyone who trains serious. They give their members pizza just for showing up as a reward. An alarm goes off anytime someone drops a weight or makes a loud noise. They don't want the wannabes to feel uncomfortable with a real gym rat.

I think I seen a special on the owner of Retro Gyms, and he is filthy rich! but runs nice franchises!

It really is nice having variety like that. Going to a different gym is sometimes like having a completely different workout. Something as simple as different thickness of the dumbell or barbell grips can change the effectiveness of your workout. Different machines have different ranges of motion, and different types of resistance. Always good to mix it up.

Um, I was joking..... !

My main gripe about them is that they're crowded. By which I mean the equipment is crowded into a space that's too small. And this is by design. I was looking into trying to get a franchise, and one of the selling points to potential franchisees is that Retro gyms use much less floor space than others; that others have "too much" floor space. I can tell you from abusers standpoint this is total BS. I badly miss Gold's Gym in Henderson, NV (which is just about the only thing I miss about NV) in large part because it was so much more open. At Retro I am constantly squeezing between piecesbof equopment to load plates, get plates off the "tree", etc. And when it's full of people, it's unbearable! I only go in the mornings when it's not busy.

All that said, Gold's can't seem to stay in business around here. I dunno what that's about, if it's high franchise fees, or what, but there have been several over the years and they don't last.
