I've been using my coffeemaker to heat up my raws but it doesn't have a temperature gauge. I'm thinking for my next brew especially tren I will use my electric skillet so I can set the temperature. What do you guy us think will this work okay as a substitute? Or should I go for a water bath in a pot?

I want to place the beaker directly on the skillet without water so mositure will not get in.

spend some money and get a magnetic hot plate bro, you'll be happy you did, trust me, lol

I use one love it!. I tell guys to use a hot water bath because most wont put out the funds for the proper equipment to do it right.

im totally against the water bath... i mean its a good idea for plan b... but not for a main technique ... but i guess its there loss if they dont want to do it right.. lol

My view is that you shouldn't be brewing unless you have the right equipment. That's why I haven't in a long time. My equipment broke when I moved :(

I have been home brewing with water bath method for years and never had issues. However I want to get a hot plate to cut down on brewing time.

I have always brewed using about an 1 1/2 of water on the stove as my heat source.
Is that bad? As long as you don't get water in the brew?
if you can make better quality brew with a hot plate, I am all ears!
does using a hot plate give you a better product?

screw water baths, thats just something extra you have to clean up when you're done. amateur type crap, a good magnetic stirrer will last years anyway. they're expensive, but they are def worth it, no doubt

I have a buddy who uses a single temp controlled skillet. its small for like a single apartment and he says it works great.
As for hot plates/mag stirrer-
Mine was $140. you can get them for cheaper at lab supply places and maybe even on Ebay. Just a thought

Lol. I meant that I brew the gear in 1 1/2 inches of water. Not for an hour and a half.
Typing on this dang phone, I get some typos.

5 pad burner? how much stuff do you make!? MS400 is a good hotplate for sure though

Aight so a question about the hotplate.....
i use a burner because the flame is consistent and doesn't get hot, cool off, get hot, cool off etc. Does the hotplate you guys use act like an eye on a stove or is it a constant heat?
i've never looked into one so curious. I use the magnetic stirrers at work but not on a hot plate
