Broke my fucking foot!

Dammit!!! Playing hockey the other night. It's just a "pick up" skate, no refs, we choose up sides based on how many white jerseys and how many dark, try to keep it even, and go at it. Dig the puck out of the net when somebody scores and gi at it again, a friendly game. One of the guys used to fill in on the local minor league pro team before it went belly up. I'm a defenseman, defending against this guy as he's skating in fast against my goalie. I'm skating backwards and he lets loose a shot which I stopped with my skate. Especially at close range like that I expect the puck to hit the skate blade, but it got the boot, which is hard but doesn't have any real padding. Got the outside of my foot, the metatarcil bone and I went down on one knee with a yell. Damn, that kid has a wicked shot!! Figured I'd have a nasty bruise for a weekbor two. Maybe a limp. Went back out for my next shift and was ok pushing off during my normal stride but as soon as I made an outside turn I had to get off, felt like I stepped on an ice pick!

So I goes to the doc the next day and sure enough, the damn thing is broke!! Fuck!! Minimum 4 weeks in an air cast and limited walking - I normally walk anywhere from 6 to 10 miles a day at work - and obviously this puts a serious cramp in my training. Doc says I should still be able to do leg press as long as I keep my feets high and the weight on my heels, so I'll do that for sure, but no squatting, and I guess my calves are gonna shrink.

SHIT!!! I hate being broken!!! Had plans for a nice motorcycle ride this weekend with some buddies, too... Did I say, "FUCK!!!" ???

That's sure does suck Brutha! 4 weeks ain't bad all things considered I guess it could have been worse, you could have got ur teeth knocked out lol

Lol sorry just trying to make you feel better lol or puck could have hit ur dick and made ya limp forever lol

Nah, we wear protective cups for that! Lol... When I was a kid a slap shot got me in the cup and cracked it! I wore a goalie cup for years after that...

Best wishes for a speedy recovery bro.

Lol! Masher, I can do leg extensions. Doc even said I could do leg press as long as I keep my feets up high on the platform and keep the weight on my heels. Somehow, I don't think I'm going to be looking like that picture any time soon!!

Sorry to hear about the broken foot bro. Even though the doc says that you can do leg presses with feet high on the board, I would start real light. If you have to make an adjustment during your set and put pressure on your heel, it could be a problem.

Beast, the outer metatarcil bone is what's broke, near the heel, but weight on the heel is ok; it's when I distribute weight normally - sort of like a tripod, heel, big toe, little toe - that I have a problem. That's when strain is applied to the fracture. I'm able to avoid that pretty well, but I'll tell you, my heel is getting sore from carrying my body weight more or less on its own on that foot. The foot is better after only a week and a half, but still has a long way to go, for sure.

I did manage to get a halfway decent leg workout in yesterday, being careful not to hurt my foot. Did leg press in a vertical leg press machine, which I liked pretty well - 1st time I've used one, we're checking out a new gym - I did start real light and trained fairly light compared to usual, but at least got the muscles working a little.

One thing I started wondering about: as far as I know there are no nerves in bones. Is this true? Any orthopeadic docs out there? Or maybe med students or nurses or something? If this is the case, then what is it that senses pain in a broken bone? There sure is plenty of it, so something in there senses it, transmits it, whatever... just curious.
