Typical steroids user is well-educated and thirty plus, says study
Governments are taking a harder line against the use of anabolic steroids – for reasons that don't hold water, say American researchers in a study published a couple of years ago. Steroids users are not young adolescents, but adults who have made well-considered decisions, according to the Americans. Steroids users are not top athletes out to cheat, but non-pros who train in gyms.

The researchers – among whom were lawyer Rick Collins [handsome guy on the right] and psychologist Jack Darkes – did four months of internet research. They approached bodybuilders through body building message boards, and asked if they were prepared to complete an extensive questionnaire. This way they collected data from 2700 men and women in 80 countries. The 'average' steroids user turned out to be completely different from the stereotype the lawmakers have in mind.

The average age steroids user is aged 31. Ninety percent of the respondents were white, half were unmarried and 64 percent had no children. Most were more highly educated than the average American, and 77 percent were self employed. Of those who replied, 98 percent had work, far higher than the average employment rate in the US.

The most popular substances were testosterone, methandienone and nandrolone. Other frequently used substances were hCG, tamoxifen, clomiphene and anastrozole.

The doses were higher than those prescribed by doctors, but not as high as you'd expect. In Europe a course of testosterone usually consists of one gram a week, but the respondents said that they used lower doses.

The same was true for dianabol. Most bodybuilders followed the recommendations made in underground manuals.

The question that springs to mind is how typical the users are that the Americans interviewed. But the researchers admit this too: "No data is available to compare participants to non medical anabolic steroids users without Internet access, those unaware of the survey, or those who chose not to participate."

Very cool study. Every semester people look at me like some kind of meathead. It's not always negative. Just last week as I was walking down the stairs some HUGE dude (like 6'7 and maybe 260 -270) was about to go up the stairs and said "damn, I guess we know who the top dog on campus is". That was pretty funny. Normally people shy away from sitting next to me in lab classes or classes where there is group work... unless they've had a class with me previously. In that case they cluster around me. It's sad that those stereotypes stI'll exist.

The stereotype is wrong, like most things like this, the 5% get the PR
Maybe most of us are successful because we are driven, not only in transforming our bodies but life in general . Or the fact we are disciplined more so than average Joe

Isn't funny how we can call eachother meatheads or plateheads or whatever.....but if someone else does it, well the context may change depending on how they use it, kinda like a black can call another black the N word, but if a white person does it, well you know the rest!!

Ultimate meathead that's not a meathead, Dolph Lundgren. He has a master's degree in chemical engineering.
He does a good job of acting like a meathead, then. He's a better actor than we give him credit for!

Dave Palumbo is an MD. Lots of guys have much higher graduate degrees than Dolph Lundgren. The program I'm enrolled in is a Doctorate in Pharmacy

So your comparing the negative connotation of "Meathead" with that of "N igger" , lol I bet theres some folks who might disagree lol

I love meeting like minded intelligent people at the gym. Usually the 'meatheads' are done by there late 20's or early 30's. If someone has a great body and is 35+ in the gym in my experience they are usually very sucessfull in the business world and are above average when it comes to intelligence.
