The former lightweight champion and two-time featherweight title challenger tipped the scales at 135.5 pounds at Friday’s official weigh-ins for UFC on ESPN 15. That made Edgar’s fight with Pedro Munhoz (136) official for Saturday’s headliner at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
This marks Edgar’s first UFC appearance at bantamweight after spending the past seven years competing at 145 pounds.
Co-main event light heavyweights Ovince Saint Preux and Alonzo Menifield also successfully weighed in.
The main card got a shakeup as Daniel Rodriguez was rebooked against Dwight Grant in a welterweight bout. Rodriguez was to face Takashi Sato in the original show opener, while Grant was scheduled to fight short-notice replacement Calen Born on the preliminaries. Sato made successfully made weight before being pulled from the card. Born did not weigh in. MMA Junkie was first to report the change.
There was one other close call as Trevin Jones initially came in half-a-pound heavy for a 140-pound catchweight bout – the typical one-pound allowance did not apply – against Timur Valiev. However, Jones was given extra time to cut weight and later hit the scales at 139.5 pounds.
