Andre Ewell | Esther Lin, MMA Fighting Irwin Rivera is staying busy.
The bantamweight competes in his third fight of 2020 and his second in five weeks when he fights Andre Ewell at a UFC event on Sept. 19 scheduled to take place at UFC APEX in Las Vegas. MMA Fighting confirmed the matchup with sources following an initial report from TSN.
Rivera (10-5) made his UFC debut at 145 pounds on less than 48 hours’ notice as a replacement for Mike Davis at UFC on ESPN 8. He would lose a unanimous decision to Giga Chikadze, but score his first octagon victory three months later with a split nod against Ali AlQaisi.
Ewell (16-6) most recently fought at UFC 247 in February, where he defeated Jonathan Martinez by split decision. “Mr. Highlight” has alternated wins and losses in five UFC appearances since making his promotional debut with a split decision win against former bantamweight champion Renan Barao.
A welterweight grudge match between Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington is in the works to headline the Sept. 19 event.
