UFC on ESPN 15 video: Shana Dobson pulls off huge upset with second round stoppage against Mariya Agapova

Coming off three losses in a row, the former Ultimate Fighter contender knew it was do-or-die for her at UFC on ESPN 15 and she delivered after enduring the opening onslaught from opponent Mariya Agapova and then coming back with a devastating finish in round two.
“I was a huge underdog,” Dobson said while celebrating her win. “I came in with that, I used that as ammunition. I’ll bring the dog out in the cage tonight.”
Like a bull being released from the chute, Agapova was firing on all cylinders as soon as the fight began, throwing a head kick and a wild array of punches in an attempt to end the fight in a hurry. Dobson survived the opening barrage and countered with a takedown in an attempt to slow down the action.
Even on the ground, Agapova was constantly moving and attacking as she looked for strikes and submissions but the activity had an adverse effect on her conditioning. As the second round got started, Agapova was noticeably slower and labored in her movement, which gave Dobson the opening she needed.
After the fight hit the ground again, Dobson quickly reversed positions to land on top where she began blasting away with punches with Agapova locked underneath her. As the assault continued, Agapova tried to scramble free but there was no escape as Dobson just kept hammering away with strikes until the referee had no choice but to stop the fight.
The end came at 1:38 in the second round.
Dobson had to know that her job was probably on the line heading into the fight and she secured her spot on the roster by taking out one of the hottest prospects in the women’s divisions. She now moves forward following up her second UFC victory after last entering the winner’s circle back in 2017.
