UFC on ESPN 15 video: Daniel Rodriguez knocks out Dwight Grant in potential round of the year

After his original opponent Takashi Sato was pulled from the card during the UFC on ESPN 15 weigh-ins, Rodriguez accepted a fight with Dwight Grant, who also lost his opponent in the final hours leading up to the event. The welterweights then engaged in an absolute fire fight with Grant landing an early knockdown that nearly earned him a lightning quick finish.
Rodriguez somehow survived and then stormed back by wobbling Grant with a punch and then pouring on the punishment until he finally put the former Contender Series away with a jaw-dropping knockout. The non-stop action finally came to an end at 2:24 in the opening round.
“That was intense,” Rodriguez said after his win. “We were slinging them. That’s how I do.”
As they kicked off the main card, Grant was quick to land a slick counter punch that put Rodriguez down on the canvas. Grant followed him to the ground where he fired away with a barrage of strikes in an attempt to get the finish.
Listening to the referee’s instructions to fight back, Rodriguez refused to stop moving until he finally worked his way back to the feet. Rodriguez then unloaded a short shot that caught Grant off guard and rattled him immediately.
It was then Rodriguez who surged ahead with a relentless series of strikes that finally saw Grant crumble to the ground as the referee rushed into stop the fight.
“I kind of blacked out there for a little while,” Rodriguez said about the knockdown he suffered. “I recovered quick, I was able to land a short hook I believe it was and I was able to capitalize on that.”
The win moves Rodriguez to 3-0 in the UFC in 2020 and if he has his way he’ll get at least one if not two more fights before the year is over.
