Bellator 244 this past Friday night delivered an explosive main event as Vadim Nemkov took out Ryan Bader to become light heavyweight champion, but the overall ratings didn’t deliver.
The event averaged 275,000 viewers over the course of the broadcast that kicked off at 10 p.m. ET on the Paramount Network. Overall, Bellator 244 finished at No. 79 out of the top 150 programs on cable this past Friday. The event did a .09 in the coveted 18-49 year old demographic.
The card was simulcast on DAZN, which is a private streaming service, so those broadcast numbers are not made available publicly.
While Bellator hasn’t promoted many cards on the Paramount Network in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic and its broadcast deal with DAZN, the show from this past weekend produced the lowest ratings of the year.
Here’s how Bellator has fared on the Paramount Network in 2020:
Bellator 239 averaged 296K viewers.
Bellator 240 averaged 310K viewers.
Bellator 242 averaged 277K viewers
Bellator 243 averaged 403K viewers
Bellator 244 averaged 275K viewers
This past Saturday’s event marks a significant drop from Bellator’s previous show, where the promotion had its best ratings of the year with a main event that featured Michael Chandler scoring a first-round knockout over former UFC champion Benson Henderson.
Since Spike TV rebranded as the Paramount Network, Bellator has struggled to find a foothold with audiences during its normal Friday night timeslot. The top four programs for cable on Friday surrounded the NBA playoffs with three games and the Inside the NBA special dominating the night.
Bellator will go back-to-back with its next two cards starting with Bellator 245 on Friday, Sept. 11 followed by Bellator 246 on Saturday, Sept. 12. Both cards will be simulcast on Paramount Network and DAZN.
