Esther Lin, MMA Fighting Alex Caceres has had an interesting UFC Vegas 8 fight week to say the very least.
After losing his originally scheduled opponent Giga Chikadze, Caceres was set to take on promotional newcomer Kevin Croom at this Saturday night’s event. ESPN’s Marc Raimondi first reported that Croom would not be competing after all for undisclosed reasons and that the UFC was still trying to lock down a replacement.
On Wednesday, they found one in former Contender Series alum Austin Springer, multiple sources confirmed to MMA Fighting.
Springer, who also confirmed the booking via social media early Thursday morning, enters his octagon debut on a three-fight winning streak. The Washington native submitted Chikadze in the third round of their matchup on Dana White’s Contender Series in June 2018 via rear naked choke. The 33-year-old also holds victories over current UFC featherweight Julian Erosa, and Bellator 145er Toby Misech.
Caceres will look to extend his winning streak to three after victories over Steven Peterson and Chase Hooper.
UFC Vegas 8 will be headlined by a light heavyweight matchup between Anthony Smith and Aleksandar Rakic.
