Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC A night of quick submissions at UFC Vegas 8 continued when Alex Caceres put Austin Springer to sleep in the first round Saturday night.
Springer tapped and briefly went unconscious after a takedown attempt allowed Caceres to transition to the back and apply a rear-naked choke for the finish at the 3:38 mark of the opening frame.

Springer, who missed weight by five pounds for the bout, was Caceres’ third scheduled opponent and took the fight on two days’ notice after the withdrawal of Giga Chikadze and Kevin Croom. The American Top Team product tried to make the best of his opportunity, attacking the lead leg and trying to close the distance to land heavy punches. But early on, he was dinged by a head kick, and Caceres’ long arms did damage.
One particular uppercut and body shot, which Caceres called “a two-piece,” prompted the takedown attempt that set the end in motion. Caceres picked up his fifth career submission and has now won three straight after an upset over prospect Chase Hooper in his previous bout.
Springer, a Contender Series vet who owns a win over Chikadze, sees a three-fight streak snapped.
