Katlyn Chookagian welcomes Jessica Andrade to flyweight at Oct. 17 UFC event

Jessica Andrade will test her hands at flyweight against Katlyn Chookagian (pictured) in October. | Esther Lin, MMA Fighting Jessica Andrade’s first bout in the UFC flyweight division will be against No. 1 ranked Katlyn Chookagian at the upcoming Fight Night card on Oct. 17, sources told MMA Fighting following a report from MMAjunkie.
The UFC Fight Night show will be headlined by featherweights Brian Ortega and “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung.
Andrade (20-8) decided to try things out at flyweight after losing a decision to Rose Namajunas in July. The former UFC strawweight champion does not rule out moving back to 115 pounds right after.
“Bate Estaca” holds wins over some of UFC’s best at both strawweight and bantamweight, including Namajunas, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Claudia Gadelha, Angela Hill, Joanne Calderwood and Raquel Pennington.
Chookagian (14-3) came up short in her attempt top dethrone flyweight queen Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 247 in February, then bounced back to the winning column with a decision over Valentina’s sister Antonina Shevchenko in May.
“Blonde Fighter” is a former Cage Fury FC bantamweight champion who won two of three in the UFC before dropping to flyweight in 2018, going 5-2 with victories over the likes of Calderwood, Jennifer Maia and Mara Romero Borella.
