USADA officials announced the sanction on Wednesday following an investigation.
“Doskalchuk, 30, tested positive for the mesterolone metabolites 1?-methyl-5?-androstan-3?-ol-17-one, 1?-methyl-5?-androstan-3?,17?-diol and 1?-methyl-5?-androstan-3,6,16-triol-17-one as the result of a urine sample collected out-of-competition on June 6, 2020,” USADA officials said in a statement.
“During an investigation into the circumstances of the case, Doskalchuk provided evidence that a physician incorrectly prescribed him a prohibited medication containing mesterolone despite the fact that Doskalchuk sent him the UFC Wallet Card and requested treatment permitted under the rules. As such, USADA determined that Doskalchuk’s degree of fault was diminished and that he should receive a reduced period of ineligibility.”
Mesterolone is an androgen and anabolic steroid that is typically used in the treatment of low testosterone. It is banned at all times for athletes competing under the UFC’s anti-doping policy.
According to USADA, Doskalchuk also received a reduced penalty for his full cooperation with the investigation into his case.
His 14-month suspension was retro dated to June 6, 2020, which was when his sample was collected. That means he’ll be eligible to return to action on or after Aug. 6, 2021.
Doskalchuk never had the opportunity to make his UFC debut after he was originally slated to fight on the July 18 card on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. Now he’ll have to wait until at least August 2021 before he will be allowed to fight in the UFC.
