Speaking with MMA Fighting on Thursday morning, Teixeira revealed that the two-division Glory champion Alex Pereira, his main training partner in this camp, also tested positive for the virus, so they decided to quarantine together in his house and continue to train for the fight, that was just moved from Sept. 12 to Oct. 3.
Pereira is the Glory middleweight and light heavyweight titleholder and is interested in a possible transition to MMA in the future. He built a 2-1 record under the Jungle Fight banner back in 2005-06, but focused in his kickboxing career since. “Poatan” scored a pair of wins over Israel Adesanya in the kickboxing circuit.
“I only did the test because the UFC asked me to, I wasn’t feeling any symptoms,” Teixeira said. “Actually, no one in the team had any symptoms. They tested everybody, and Alex and I were the only ones that came back positive. But they asked everyone to test again next week just to make sure.”

Pereira told MMA Fighting he’s feeling “normal” despite the test result.
Teixeira’s wife tested negative for the virus, Teixeira said, so they are sleeping in separate rooms at home. She will be tested one more time next week.
Teixeira took the pandemic seriously back in April, prior to a main event clash with Anthony Smith. The Brazilian light heavyweight told MMA Fighting at the time that the virus was “no joke” and he knew it “wouldn’t affect me” since he’s healthy and strong, “but I can carry it and infect others.”
Feeling well despite the disease, Teixeira will use the gym he built in his garage to continue his preparation while quarantined ahead of the “Marreta” fight. Teixeira vs. Santos was originally set to headline a Fight Night card, and Teixeira says he had yet to be informed of a possible change from five to three rounds. The Oct. 3 event is currently headlined by Holly Holm vs. Irene Aldana.
“I have everything I need to continue my preparation at home, so I’ll continue my preparation here,” Teixeira said. “Since Alex and I are quarantining together, we’ll continue training. We won’t leave my house until the test comes back negative, but having Alex here is great already.”
