Sijara Eubanks | Esther Lin, MMA Fighting This weekend’s card has lost a fight, but next weekend’s card has picked one up.
Multiple sources confirmed to MMA Fighting that Karol Rosa is out of her scheduled fight with Sijara Eubanks at UFC Vegas 9 this Saturday. Eubanks will not remain on the card and will instead face Julia Avila at the UFC’s Sept. 12 event in Las Vegas.
Per sources, the reason for Rosa’s withdrawal was due to weight cutting issues. She was hospitalized Thursday afternoon.
Eubanks, who was originally scheduled to face Macy Chiasson at the event, is an alum of The Ultimate Fighter 26 with wins over Lauren Murphy and Roxanne Modafferi in her first pair of UFC bouts. She had to move up to bantamweight after persistent issues with the scale at 125 pounds.
“Sarj” recently scored her first octagon win at 135 pounds, notching a decision over Sarah Moras. The victory put her back on track after consecutive defeats against Aspen Ladd and Bethe Correia.
Avila was scheduled to face Nicco Montano at the UFC’s Oct. 3 event but that has been scratched as Montano was unable to obtain a passport in time, sources confirmed to MMA Fighting. With Rosa’s scratch, it opens up Avila to take a fight against a top-15 opponent in Eubanks.
“Raging Panda” improved to 2-0 in the UFC following an impressive 22-second TKO win over Gina Mazany at UFC on ESPN 10 in May. Avila, who has won her last four fights, made her octagon debut this past July at UFC 239 and earned a unanimous decision win over Pannie Kianzad.
