After earning a full-on roster spot with the UFC this past Tuesday night at DWCS Season 4: Week 5, William Knight will make his octagon debut on less than a month’s notice and face Aleksa Camur at UFC 253 on Sept. 26. The new addition to the event—which is slated to take place in Abu Dhabi—was announced during the UFC Vegas 9 broadcast Saturday night.
Knight first competed on Dana White’s Contender Series in August 2019 and picked up a third-round TKO win over Herdem Alacabek. With the win, “Knightmare” was awarded a developmental deal with the UFC. The 32-year-old competed three times between October 2019 and January 2020, picking up two stoppage wins for New England promotion Classic Entertainment & Sports and a highly controversial TKO loss to Tafon Nchuwki for Cage Fury Fighting Championship in between.
He got his second Contender Series shot and made the most of it with a first-round TKO win over Cody Brundage to become an active member of the promotion. In an interview ahead of Tuesday’s bout, Knight expressed interest in fighting Camur and he gets his wish for his promotional debut.
Camur earned his UFC contract in July 2019 on the Contender Series with a highlight-reel TKO win over Fabio Cherant. The Croatian fighter made his octagon debut in January, earning a unanimous decision win over Justin Ledet at UFC 246. Camur, a teammate of UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, has had five stoppages inside two rounds during his six-fight unbeaten pro career.
UFC 253 will be headlined by a middleweight title fight between champion Israel Adesanya and Paulo Costa. A new light heavyweight champion will be crowned in the co-main event as Dominick Reyes takes on Jan Blachowicz for the title recently vacated by Jon Jones.
