Missed Fists: Zabit’s brother Khasan Magomedsharipov breaks out twister submission for the win

A little housekeeping before we begin: Firstly, most of this week’s clips were compiled into a list by @Barrelelapierna (who you should be following) and uploaded by @Grabaka_Hitman (who if you’re not following already, I mean, what are we even doing here?).
Secondly, we normally hand out a “Humpty Dumpty” award to the fighter who had the most unfortunate fall of the week, but as you’ll see there were so many dramatic drops this time around that we are essentially declaring this the Humpty Dumpty Edition of Missed Fists.
Thirdly, our best featured highlight might not even be a KO; rather, it could be a submission authored by the brother of UFC star Zabit Magomedsharipov.
[h=2]Khasan Magomedsharipov vs. Dibir Amirmagomedov[/h]Given that Zabit scored one of the best submissions of 2018 with his Suloev Stretch of Brandon Davis, is it any surprise that his younger brother Khasan Magomedsharipov is a beast on the ground too?
Here’s Khasan making a mess out of Dibir Amirmagomedov at a Kaganat Fighting League show in Khasavyurt, Dagestan this past Monday.
That’s human quicksand stuff right there. Khasan is just 19 years old, and while he’s probably still one or two fights away from a legitimate step-up in competition, he’s an unquestionably intriguing prospect at 145 pounds. Just like big bro once was.
And now, cue the unofficial Humpty Dumpty Awards theme music. Bodies?All Falls Down?It’s Raining Men??? You know what, maybe I’ll just leave the musical selections to you guys.
[h=2]Tatsuya Saika vs. Genpei Hayashi[/h]At Pancrase 318 in Tokyo on Tuesday, we crowned a new interim lightweight King of Pancrase. All hail the new (interim) king, Tatsuya Saika! No, seriously, hail him or he might do something like this to your face:
[h=2]Jervon Beverly vs. Robert Taylor[/h]At Gulf Coast MMA 6 in Hattiesburg, Miss., on Monday, light heavyweights Jervon Beverly and Robert Taylor did an amateur reenactment of the ending of Fedor-Arlovski.
Jumping strikes in MMA are wonderful, but if you’re going to leave your feet you probably want to have some sort of plan as opposed to just launching yourself forward chin-first.
[h=2]Ivan Sopivskoy vs. Danil Erlich[/h]Ivan Sopivskoy improved to 4-1 with a massive KO of Danil Erlich at an RCC: Intro show in Ekaterinburg, Russia last Saturday.
Watch how light Sopivskoy is on his feet and how he plants himself before hurling that left hand bomb. Maybe not the most complex set-up, but when you land a shot like that you can worry about the finer points of your technique later.
[h=2]Agung Maulana vs. Zainal Abidin Bahri[/h]We briefly interrupt this run of standup finishes to bring you this ground hellbow KO from ONE PRIDE MMA Fight Night 37 in Jakarta, Indonesia from this past Monday.
That’s Agung Maulana living up to the first four letters of his last name. Zainal Abidin Bahri probably didn’t think he was in too much danger, but you can see his legs relax and he’s not controlling Maulana’s posture at all. Then that elbow just comes right down on his face.
For the record, there’s nothing funny about any of these knockouts, but the way that Bahri abruptly went limp was extra not funny.
[h=2]Dean Barr vs. Abdulla Al Bousheiri
Hashem Arkhagha vs. Yuri Fraga
Kyung Pyo Kim vs. Shamil Aminov[/h]Over at UAE Warriors 13 in Abu Dhabi, last Friday, Dean Barry absolutely picked apart Abdulla Al Bousheiri before ending him with a clean left.
No follow-up strikes needed.
Hashem Arkhagha didn’t need any either.
Poor Yuri Fraga suffered the delayed face-plant there, the cage fence only serving to delay the inevitable and make his fall all the greater.
And then we have one more… wait, what’s this? A submission?
Sorry KO fans, we had to give props to Kyung Pyo Kim for this daring transition from full mount to triangle choke. So many fighters are afraid to sacrifice that dominant position, but Kim realized that there was the potential for greater rewards (like a spot in Missed Fists).
It’s a shame that Kim’s originally scheduled opponent, PFL vet Islam Mamedov, was removed after passing out from weight cut complications. At least Kim got to style on a guy with a 0-0 record instead.
[h=2]Boris Magomedov vs. Vasiliy Sokolov[/h]That was one way to set up a triangle choke, now let Boris Magomedov show you another.
Ah yes, the ol’ fake spin kick into triangle trap. It’s almost too simple. This finish—which took place at a Fight Nights Global show in Moscow last Friday—is the kind that can only happen when two men who have zero pro experience meet in the cage. And that’s exactly what happened here.
[h=2]Adriano Rodrigues vs. Marcao Santana
Carlston Harris vs. Alex Santos[/h]Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming with two knockouts from Shooto Brasil 101 in Rio de Janeiro that might just steal the whole show.
Adriano Rodrigues won a vacant middleweight title by blasting Marcao Santana’s head off with a flying knee.
But welterweight Carlston Harris may have topped that long-range KO with this winging punch that caught Alex Santos on juuuuuust the right spot.
Boop! Ya done.
