Esther Lin, MMA Fighting A battle of Contender Series alums has been added to the UFC’s early 2021 schedule.
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that a flyweight matchup between Ode Osbourne and Jerome Rivera has been added to the UFC’s Jan. 30 event. As of now, a location has yet to be announced for the fight card.
Osbourne, who is making his 125-pound debut, was a standout during the 2019 season of DWCS when he picked up a first-round submission of Armando Villarreal to earn a contract. “The Jamaican Sensation” made his octagon debut at January’s UFC 246 event and was submitted by Brian Kelleher. The 28-year-old is set to return following the longest layoff of his 12-fight pro career.
Rivera will also be looking for his first UFC win following a second-round TKO loss to Tyson Nam at UFC Vegas 11 in his short notice debut. Prior to that, “The Renegade” bounced back from a loss to Brandon Royval for LFA with three consecutive wins, which includes earning a unanimous decision over Luis Rodriguez at DWCS Season 4: Week 1 in August.
While a main event has yet to be announced, the UFC’s Jan. 30 event will include a women’s flyweight matchup between Roxanne Modafferi and Viviane Araujo.
