The 2023 Sheffield Powerlifting Championships occurred on March 25 in Sheffield, UK, and saw multiple all-time world records fall. The headliner was Jesus Olivares‘ new all-time world record total of 1,152.5 kilograms (2,540.8 pounds) in the superheavyweight division.
However, Olivares wasn’t the only lifter to rewrite history. In the Women’s 52-kilogram class, Evie Corrigan of New Zealand put on a clinic and set two new IPF world records in the deadlift and total. She scored a 202.5-kilogram (446.4-pound) deadlift en route to her 460-kilogram (1,014.3-pound) total.

Corrigan’s records are IPF world records but not all-time world records. According to Open Powerlifting, Corrigan’s deadlift matched Jenn Rotsinger‘s record lift from the 2019 United States Powerlifting Association (USPA) The Tribute. Likewise, Rotsinger holds the all-time world record total in the 52-kilogram class thanks to her 465-kilogram (1,025.2-pound) total at that same meet.
However, the USPA is not a member federation of the IPF, but rather the International Powerlifting League (IPL); therefore, the IPF does not recognize results from USPA meets.

Evie Corrigan’s Competitive History
The details of which federation is a member of which aside, Corrigan’s results in Sheffield are still a remarkable feat for the 26-year-old, whose competitive powerlifting career thus far has been nearly flawless.
Since making her debut at the 2016 New Zealand Powerlifting Federation (NZPF) CDPA Bench Press Qualifier, Corrigan has competed in 19 sanctioned meets. Of those 19, she’s won 16 — a win rate of 84 percent — and only missed the podium on one occasion: the 2022 IPF World Classic Championships, where she ranked fourth.
