techniques to increase intensity...

Sometimes as we progress we forget about some of the other ways to increase intensity on the muscle we are working. It seems that as we get bigger & stronger we want to only push big weight in attempt to get even more!
Well, I am in the gym trying to work around a hand injury and have not been able to use free-weights and am limited on most machines due to pain. I needed to find a way to work the muscle but in most cases use alot less weight than I'm used to.
What I started doing is pre-exhaust both straight sets and super-sets. For example I hit pec dec for some high rep sets to get the chest burning then go to the incline or flat machine and pump out some more high rep sets. It's a change for my body and I've been getting very sore from it.
Sometimes we don't realize we're in a rut until something like an injury forces us to be creative. If you've been doing the same thing forever, switch it up and see how your body responds, it may be worthwhile.

I know what you are saying. I got in the gym late the other day and had to do quads in 30-40 minutes so I did some super sets. I could hardly walk out of they gym after that.
