Deadlift help please

Ok so I have not always done full deads. I used to just do partials on the smith but now I do fulls. Anyhow when I first started I was getting stronger very quickly. I skyrocketed up to pulling 475. After that I just kind of stuck there. Now in the last three weeks I have failed at 475 a half dozen times. The first times I did I pulled it easy-It jumped off the ground. Then I pulled it real slow in a jerky motion-which is a little scary. Now I get it about 6 inches and I cant go anymore. The first few times I was pulling no belt. Then people kept ragging on me telling me that I am playing with fire so I started using a belt. With a belt I have a hard time getting compact and then unloading should I ditch it? Today I tried it twice- 2nd pull I got done failing took 2 steps and blacked out. I could see myself falling but I couldn't do anything about it very wierd. Sorry for the book but does anyone have any suggestions?

Doing the same exercise for more than 3 weeks at or above 90 % of your one rep max will only make you weaker. It sounds like you are maxing out on deadlifts all of the time when you should be doing reps and maybe alternating your exercises. I also disagree with anyone that tells you that you have to wear a belt to deadlift. Wearing a belt all of the time will not allow your spinal erectors or your abs to develop strength. Wearing a belt should allow you to lift more though but I would not recommend wearing it during your regular training. If you stay below 90 % of your max deadlift and perform more reps there is no reason that your deadlift should not go up in the next few weeks.

Hey, seeing that we are talking deadlifts, does anyone have any good info about doing them right? I never did them but I tried doing them these last two weeks and my lower spine hurt like hell for days after. I am definitely doing something wrong. Any help please? Thanks guys.

do a search on the internet search engine of your choice; you should get a ton of results, some have pictures and some don't. Either way, this should give you what you need

try
www.exrx.net good site! has animations of the exercises

also with the problem of the deads, the reason you are not gaining more strength also has part in the concept of diminished returns (stuff from my kinesiology text book), it states that an individual with a low fitness level will gain more rapidly in fitness, while someone already at a high plateau of fitness will only gradually get better. think of a world class sprinter trying to shave off milleseconds from their time while some fat slob can take seconds off their times by training regularily.

great read. I especially like how discussed how techniques change so drastically between body types.
