protein digestion

Does anyone use any sort of enzymes or whatever to aid in digestion of proteins? Just curious what some of the options are, something that aids assimilation and reduces bloat (and gas).

If you have bad cases of bloat and gas it could be a form of candidasis-especially if you have had a course of antibiotics lately or eat alot of sugars. Candida is an overgrowth of "bad ' bacteria in the gut-our good bacteria usually keeps it from spreading into the stomache, unless things are out of balance. Ever seen anyone with a white tongue or mouth? (Thrush) that is a severe case of candidasis. Nyastin(pos. sp) is a drug used without really good results. Supplementing a high quality probiotic from a health food store works good most of the time(make sure to get a refrigerated form-better quality).

As far as digestive enzymes there are around 22 or so that are used to breakdown foods.Make sure if you do get enzymes to digest protein you get the right kind-particular enzymes breakdown carbs that do not work on protein and fat, protein enz do not work on carb or fat, etc.Protease enzymes digest protein, amylase digests carbs, lipase enz. digest fats. In some digestion disorders there is not enough hydrochloric acid either.

The bloat is kind of a secondary concern, but my main problem is cramming down enough food and helping my body to actually digests the extra food!

You might want to look into supplementing some hydrochloric acid-a lot of people don't produce enough for an everyday diet, and a BB eating like a horse is probably way under on HCI. I think gas is mostly from undigested carbs. Try some HCI and enzymes-don't get the el cheapo crap at wal-mart or even GNC. Go to a real health food store and get the good stuff. If you do it let me know how it works out.

I'll give it a shot, thanks SS!

I use papaya tablets (chew able) with every shake and have for years. If not I get gas bad.
I get them from GNC and chew about 6 as I am making my shake.
Works great.

gas

I personally use and recomend a fibor supplement to my clients! As far as digestive enzimes gnc as one called enzyme digestent its about $13.00. This is a must during precontest conditions. As far as the "gas" that Kidrock is having. well it may be due to the type of protiens fractions used.. I personally CANT digest whey concentrates by themselves. I usually end up with cramping ! I have switch to blended protiens and never use one without a fibor supplement of some type. and a carb to help slow down the digestion.

I am curious about the whey proteins you have used-of course whey is milk protein and if you are lactase deficient(enzyme that breaks down milk sugar) then you will have some digestion problems. Cramps and violent dirrahrea for sure. Fiber is a good idea too

food enzymes and fiber

I also posted another possiblity on a different thread

get a juicer of some sort and prepare a mix of the following:

whole grapefruit (peeling and all)
lemon
lime
orange

this mix will (possibly) kill the bad bacteria in your digestive trac

Hey SS!!!

Candida is actually a class (genus) of fungus, not bacteria. If you've got candidiasis or thrush, it'll be painful to swallow and you've got lesions in your mouth.

Is there some evidence that people go around with low grade forms of candidiasis?... (I could believe it!)

Yeah man certainly people can go around with low grade forms..maybe that is the reason for my memory loss calling CA a bacteria...LOlL We all have candida in our gut, women have it in the vagina-it usually is no big deal until someone starts hitting the antibiotics pretty heavy-then the CA grows and penetrates the bloodstream and turns into a nightmare. It can invade the urinary tract, liver, eyes, heart central nervous system. But this probably only happens to someone that is abusing antibiotics and eats cookies, cake , and ice cream all day. The drugs BigA listed will probably help(he listed in another thread)

If you use a real quality protein powder you will get NO bloat and NO gas!

If you are geting bloated and get the runs on a protein drink, then that protein drink is garbage, despite what their marketing and label claims say!

CFM whey isolate has 0.8g of carbs (lactose) per 100g of powder. It doesn't mater if you are lactose intolerant, it won't affect you negativelly in any way.

SyntheBLOCKplus has digestive enzymes in it. You will not experience any kind of bloating of 'fullness' i you have it with meals.

Cadida is also a huge possibility, as 99% of bodybuilders have it. And why do they have it? Becuase they have been ingesting for years garbage protein powders those same powders that give you bloat, gas and the runs.
