The atkins is ideal for us. I think it can be fine tuned according to the individual but nonetheless an excellent diet. There is obviously going to be "better" diets out there such as the one SM mentioned but for everyday eating off season or whatever the atkins seems pretty realistic to me.

Something that needs to be noted....
IMO Adkins is a very good concept...and just because someone ingests a fair amount of cholesterol does not mean it is going to be deposited in your vascular tissue....there is a hell of alot more to the heart disease picture.
Adkins is-from my understanding and I may be wrong-based on keeping insulin levels steady and relatively low. His diet really only promotes foods (carbs especially) with a low glycemic index. You won't find foods like bananas, carrots. potatoes on his diet-I don't have the book with me so I don't have a complete list. Seems like foods with a high GI are off limits.
However I would think it is still okay to consume a shake or food that encourages an insulin spike after training even when using his diet...that small of a meal probably will not disrupt the diet...and of course I doubt Adkins tested his diet on guys that train like us with BB'ing mind but it should be pretty close to ideal for BB's.

Super,

No big deal but I believe it's aTkins not aDkins, lol. From I what I know, you're right on the concept.

Atkins' diet is not at all optimal for those who exercise regularly. A bodyopus style Cyclical Ketogenic Diet, i.e. that includes periodic carb-ups is the way to go.

OH AND JUST SO EVERYONE KNOWS.... I WASN'T CONSIDERING DOING THE ATKINS DIET..... I WAS JUST THROWING THIS THOUGHT OUT THERE...

crank i agree with randy on this. cycling my carbs gave me the best results i had from a diet. i think you and i are similar in size and build too.

I think you are right about that Randy. I wasn't taking the complete BB'ing perspective. My bust on that.

For the non-exercising fat asses out there in our society Atkins should work pretty well. Of course if Joe -6- pak ordinary citizen would quit stuffing the candy bars, soda, and doughnuts in their mouth the fat will disappear anyway.

I agree that the Atkins diet is not good for BBers. 2 reasons: from my understanding, it's high in saturated fats and does not include ANY carbs. 2 no nos for dieting BBers IMO.

if you work out hard enough your metabolism will increase and you can be a lot less strict on your diet.... you need carbs though.

no cardio

you cant achieve the condition i get too without cardio !!!!! but randy i look at your food plan!! hell im up to change
