Different Size Calves????

I trained for years and then had a lay off for a few years from a pretty bad injury. Well a few months ago I finally got back into it. I have been doing pretty good and put on about 15lbs. There is one thing that is killing me. I have different size calves. Not just a little different, but very noticeable. They are about an inch different in size. I never had this problem before. I did not work out for a while because and accident that injured my back, neck and some internals. Even when I did not get to workout I had the same size calves. Now one of my calves is growing and the other is growing much slower. My back or legs do not bother me at all now. Do you think it could be that it is not growing from the nerve damage? Has anyone had this problem and is there a way to work around it. It is starting to look pretty goofy with shorts on.

can you tell if its the belly of the gastrocnemius muscle? or the soleus? are both muscles much smaller? or just one of them? i would definitely get in to see a Doc first and make sure there isn't something else going on. If they tell you there isn't any other more serious problem I would definitely use IGF in the lagging calf muscle.

I would agree that perhaps IGF could help in this case though we do need some more info like Mikeswift said.

Keep in mind that if you do have nerve damage it is very possible that you will have to be happy with 2 legs and 2 calves but they look a bit different but they are yours..

If you do have nerve damage those nerves tell your body to send hormones, repairs soldiers and dmage control to fix, repair and grow that calf.. if your nerve is damaged that signal is greatly diminished... Nerve damage can take a year or longer to repair and recover. I woudl be sure to excercise, stimulate, massage and accupuncture it into recovery.

It willl heal it jsut takes time. be patient.. were pulling for a quick and speedy recovery

I would say its with your balance. A back and neck injury could be healed but you may be off balance for good. A good track is to see how the soles on your shoes are wearing. If there are any differences this may be an indicator.
I tore a rotator cuff years ago and to this day I have one shoulder slightly larger than the other. I would try synthoil over IGF.

Highside, I jus posted a thread on neurological chiropractics. I'm officially a firm believer that it originates in the mind and can be corrected through certain mind and body exercises.

I am really thinking about the IFG. I really think it is nerve damage. I used to get real bad burning sensations in my leg and shoulder. I got these burning sensations in the leg that has the smaller calf. Also, to this day the inside of my leg down by my ankle feels numb. It is just the skin on that leg that feels numb. The part of my calf that is smaller is what I call the head. I might be wrong on the name of it. It is the inner part of the calf on the inside of my legs. The big round knot type muscle on the inside of the leg. The problem is only in my calves too. The rest of my legs are growing at the same rate. I checked my shoes and the one that goes on the calf that is bigger is worn down a little bit more than the one with the small calf. Not a lot, but it is worn down more. I will read the thread on neurolocical chiropractics. My next move was to go to the a chiropractor. I have seen the back doctor and had 4 injections in my neck and lower back. They also had me seeing a nuerologist. He had me taking and epilepsy medication for the nerves. I had to stop taking it because it made me so tired. The other thing is when I used to go to physcial therapy they would hit my knee and ankle with the little hammer to make it jump. My leg that now has the smaller calf would not jump for a long time. It now jumps, but not like my other leg. Thanks for the help. Sythoil sound like a good option also.

MC- IGF helped my arm inbalance in a month with hard work..........hard work and MCIGF does pay off!

I think IGF is what I will give a try first. Then do the synthoil when I have other stuff planned. Would you do the IGF in just the smaller calf or both. I was thinking of around 40mcg each day.

I would apply it exactly were it's needed if its a big or small muscle I would just make sure Im in the center of the muscle.

Cyphon brings up a good point, try to center in the calf muscle. obviously you're going to be using it in the smaller calf to bring it up to match your other

different size muscles is a pretty common thing. I would train the weaker side 2 to 1 until it came back up. I had this issue in my quad many years ago, due to nerve issue, and the quad stopped firing, atrophy set in, and it took me a whole year to get it back to normal. Yes I used igf in the dead quad, and not for size or to build muscle like your thinking, but rather to help regenerate the damaged nerve , and it worked ever so slowly, took for ever. But it was the training that got the quad muscle back to the size it was , the igf was only for the injured area.
