Muscle Beach

Was down in Los Angeles for a few days with the family. (Wife, kids)
Went to Beverly Hills to window shop for them and to Venice beach for
me. That is where "Muscle Beach" is. It became famous around Arnolds
time. They had a platform on the beach where those guys would work out
sometimes. I have wanted to check it out since the 70's. It is fenced in
now with pretty fancy equipment. There's a large crowd of people watching,
many were Japanese tourist's with camera's. The few guys working out there
were either skinny kids or a couple of skinny guys with belly's. It was kind
of embarising. The older guys (with the belly's) had on the old school workout
gear. Looked pretty weak. Lot's of hot sleezy chicks walking the strip
though. That was the highlight and I can say I've been there. (yeah, and
I did get a "muscle beach" tank top - lol)

I wasn't too impressed either. 99% skinny guys and 1 semi-ripped dude doing shrugs with horrible form. Bouncing that shit up and down using the bending bar to do most of the work. lol. He had like 650 lbs on the bar. They guy was quite a bit bigger than me.When I got back home I just had to go to my gym, load up 550lbs and busted out 8 with perfect form and 2 more sets just to top it off. I really have no need to go that high but it blew my mind that people were so amazed about this guy's shrugs when he had such crap form. lol.

Lots of tools work out down there. Occasionally you'll see some serious bodybuilders working out there just for shits and giggles. The other crappy part was the price. If I remember correctly it was fairly expensive to work out in that little caged off area. I wasn't willing to shell out the cash plus back then I was single and more interested in picking up women. lol.

I do shrugs with 135 for sets of 40-50 and my traps have doubled in size.

lol, I typically use the same weight that guys 50-80lbs lighter than me use. Of course their form is horrendous but there ego is stoked.
