keto diet

Who here has any experience with this type of diet? I see a good deal of good results from Dave Palumbo's diets. I'm curious to learn more so I could decide to jump in or not. Has anyone tried this, if so, what were your experiences?

I've never heard of negative ketosis and I'm talking about more than carb depletion. The diet surrounds plenty of fats and protein with only about 30g of carbs a day coming from greens. That's the gist of it, but I wanted more info from anyone experienced with it.

Long time ago I did a carb depletion diet. 4 days of NO carbs and 3 days of carb
loading (all you could eat) - at the same time doing pre-exaust workouts. EX: set of
flys directly before bench to pre exaust pec's. After 4 days of no carbs and those
workouts your muscles were screaming for carbs - then you overload them. I got
very cut on that one. I think you mean cutting your carbs so low that your body
goes into a negative ketosis - where you burn fat for energy instead of carbs.
I started one of those with NO carbs and at the time I couldnt hang with it. With my
craving for carbs it wasent worth it to me AT THAT TIME. It sounded good but was
hard to stick with (for me) Let us know if you try it. It was supposed to be a very
anabolic diet. Muscle gaining and fat burning at the same time.

The diet works and Dave know his stuff but for some people doesnt work very good becouse they need some carbs or carb loading like 4 days with cero carbs and high fats and 3 days carb up wiht fats so you can retain size, hardiness and density, also you will have a normal life feeling better and having better workouts.
I do know and i have did a lot of experiments and it works very good my way.
Well is not my way it is absully very old, Dave just adjusted to no carbs at all.

I hate going into ketosis for the mere reason of smelling amonia through my nose and mouth all day, great for burning fat precontest but i have a hard time stomaching the ammonia smell

I used a keto diet for contest prep previously. It was extremely successful for me. My girlfriend is 9 weeks out and she's using the keto diet as well. The biggest thing is trying to deal with the cravings during the first few days/week. Americans have adapted their bodies to eating a disproportionate amount of carbs and that's a tough habit to break. It's absolutely essential that you pack your food out with you when you go somewhere because there aren't many choices available that are grab and go type things that are a) low carb and b) not loaded with unhealthy fats. A couple of options that I've come across that are quick, easy meals that satisfy the no carb requirements but don't require refrigeration or a microwave are the tear open tuna packs (I keep some in my desk at work), beef jerky and nuts like almonds and macadamias.
