How 8-time Mr. O Lee Haney swelled his pecs.

He had his own era. From 1984 to 1991, Lee Haney won a record eight consecutive Mr. Olympia’s before retiring from the stage at only 31. At 5'11 and 240, he was a transitional figure, ushering bodybuilding from the “lightweight era” of under-200 Mr. O’s just before him to the modern era of mass monsters that followed just after. Haney bridged this gap by combining a new level of size with a tight waist and classical lines. Call it mass with class. His torso muscles (back, chest, delts, traps) were his strength, so we got the Totalee Awesome one to speak about the chest training that spawned the Haney Era.

HANEY ON CHEST BASICS

“I never needed a machine to train my chest. Barbells, dumbbells, dipping bars--those are the basics. About as fancy as I got was a cable crossover machine. But really what builds chest muscle is working the barbell and dumbbell presses and flyes. You just can’t improve on those basic exercises.”

Well, it's good to know I train the same way as him, now if my chest was bigger I'd be happy. I use no machines on chest

I kind of do an old school routine like this too for chest and chest is my strength. I'm going to have to start changing it up now a bit, because of injuries. Flat bench is wearing out my shoulders.

My chest has come a long way since using IGF so I'm excited to see what the next 6 months will bring

EMG studies done on chest exercises actually showed that the chest muscle showed the most electrical activity when one was doing a decline of 10degrees or more.. the slight decline removed some of the shoulder activity in the exercise.

I feel the muscle and it's contribution and degree of contraction and choose my exercises from there. I use no barbells for chest. I also pre exhaust it. I use mostly Hammer, Strive, crossovers, and dips. Other things lead to injury for me

How do you pre exhaust it, Dude? Sometimes I'll do tris first to tire them out, hoping that it will force my chest to do more.
