One of the biggest surprises of 2011 is also one of the smallest, at least in terms of height. At the beginning of the year, Britain’s Shaun Tavernier was just another promising amateur, but he nabbed his pro card and made his pro debut (with a strong fifth) at the British Grand Prix 202 on the same weekend. Okay, but you'll probably never hear from him again, right? Wrong! He promptly won the Toronto Pro 202, and now he’s headed to the Olympia 202 Challenge on September 17. Tavernier is only 5'2", but he packs a lot of beef into those 62 inches. We got the surprising little big man to share his quad training tips and a typical quad routine.

TAVERNIER ON QUADS
  • “The leg extensions consist of two warmup sets of 20-30, one blow-out set of 70-100 reps and two more sets to failure of 40-50 reps.”
  • “Lunges are done standing for 12 steps per leg.”
  • “My legs respond best to high reps and relatively high volume.”
  • “I work legs once a week.”

I may have to try that leg extension plan. I normally go heavy for 8-10 reps, but I'll try this instead
