debating one body part a week vs twice a week

I'm a little bit old school and certainly NO expert on body building but i have been training since I was a 12 year old kid. As stated in other post I have learned a lot about BB in last couple of years. give yall some back ground first
College football Monday/Thursday, Chest, legs, tris, Wed. Off Tues/Friday shoulders, back. and of course had power moments (power cleans, snatch. etc) on all of those days and each body part had 4 exercise about 2 hour workout
I gained strength speed and weight. gear was 200mg of test (we were clueless) but I went from 196 19 yr old to 225 21yr old, Bench was 225 at 19, 335 at 21, Squat was 275 at 19 was 600 at 21. my muscle mass my strength all went up. I continued to train the same way from 22 to time I was 33. of course motivation wasnt the same so strength squat went down and bench went up lmao.
On other had I see everybody and their dog say thats over training in the BB world. I had great gains working twic a week. I stoped doing twice a week because of kids and work and went to the one time week with about 45min to hr workout splitting as typical BB routin.
No I see Jay Cutler in a mag say this BS workout once a week on chest and I think no way. Here is guy (not judging at all) take mass load of gear eating correctly and I know damn well if he is working chest one time a week he is putting in 2hrs on that chest and ripping it to hell but cant say that in a mag. cause Joe bag of doughnuts tries to hit his chest that way and snaps his shit up and sues Muscle mag
So my question If guy is working short on time and can only put an hour in the gym on one body part shouldn't he hit it twice a week? If you are going to do a body part a week then you should rip the hell out of it and 3 days later your still sore. I know building muslcel and building strength is different but looks like to me. People do a lot of undertraining and to much attention is given to overtraining. I understand Aronald would train legs for 3 hours?? How the hell is a guy gona blow up his legs with the routins I see in the Muscle mags with a 4 excercise and 4 sets?
What do yall think? If you had more time would you hit those body parts twice? I think Nuk is on the right track hitting those legs and back twice.

Im so glad you posted this. Thank You! This word "Over training" just fits the lazy society we have become. Can you "Over Practice"? haha

Totally agree, its how people justify not wanting to work. I get sick of hearing athletes and strength and cond coaches say overtraining. I just felt better when I worked chest, back, legs and shoulders twic a week. I slept better, I was stronger when I was 28 not gear than I was when I was 38 and using gear. It takes a fucking man to train legs twice a week. I know this for a fact the body adjust and adapts thats how the machine is made, you train hard on all body parts twice a week the body will get in shape to deal with it. I think 72 hrs is enough and that chest needs to be hit again. I'm 45 been training my body for 30 plus years and I have been training athletes for 22 years. I have seen the difference between a guy that trains hard and guy who does not. I know its sports and not BB but still think Overtaining is over used to much.

the best gains i ever got in legs were going them twice a week, one heavy and one high rep, i now try and fit some shoulders in with chest, chest in with shoulders and throw in extra bi's here and there i am going to add pull ups to all the end of almost all work outs as well.

i would like to fit in another leg workout but havent figured it out with my 5 day a week training schedule.

I split legs into 2 days and it's made a HUGE improvement for me. Not sure if that's possible for you, but it allows you to crush hams and quads

Ive been reading about that split and I believe I'm going to start that in Sept. I'll be on a better job routin at that time and can get in the gym same time everyday and get 6 days in. I like the thought in it. I can't squat but I do most all others.

I try to hit arms and chest every 5 days. I don't have a set day of Sunday being leg day etc. For example, I hit chest on Thursday and went high reps and drop sets 3-4 sets of 4 exercises for about 12-15 reps, pretty heavy weight. Today I hit chest again but just heavy 8-10 reps, 3 sets but still 4 exercises. For arms I like hitting them again after about a 4-5 days later but only stick with cables as much as I can because of elbow pain.

As Kai said, "I'd rather do too much than not doing enough."

am I right on the Mag sales? The routines that the pros put in their can't be the routines they really use. I mean chest 4 exercises, 4 sets. done still next week. WTF? I got to assome they have about 4 warm up sets with those other 4 warm up sets. Best shap my legs have ever been was when I squated 8 sets, 1st being warm up (thats heavy day) 5 sets 10 to 12 reps on light day.

They do more sets than that, but they'll typically do quite a few warmup sets. There's a thread around here that has Kai training legs with a younger sponsored athlete (he won a contest and got to train with Kai) and the amount of work they do is insane and would kill me if I tried it. If I can find the thread I'll bump it up for you to check out

The body ADapts to twice a week quite well. Thing is us old people need to be careful with the joints. Thats the issue really. If you start developing joint problems back off. I know I need to place 1 or 2 days between the 2nd upper body day per week or my joint issues come up. Specifically the shoulders. So I do a modified split, upper body twice a week legs once. My legs are fine with once a week. If extreme issues arise I just throw in an extra day off. I just really love training , always have.
